Confirmed with Link: Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee traded to Calgary for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, 2025 2nd, 2028 7th

I have no problem losing these two, I just wish they had obtained a 1st or one of Calgary's better prospects.

If you think the return doesn't fit what the team needs, why bother shitting again on that player in the rest of the post?

Abols, watching him he's for real,
Are you the same person who repeatedly said the board overrates its prospects?

I don't see any demonizing, Torts gave Frost and Farabee plenty of chances to prove themselves.

Farabee flatlined, maybe b/c he adjusted quickly with his smarts but over time his physical limitations won out, he never filled out and isn't that strong, he has average speed, average shot though good hands near the net, but lacks the anchor for the dirty area. He's better than he's shown this season (Sh% is half his norm), but never developed into a reliable 2LW. Good scorer who needs to play with better players.

Same with Frost, who had his best season two years ago (under Torts) but hasn't been able to build upon it. He just lacks "it," he's good in open ice but simply isn't a great playmaker in the "half court" or on the PP. Very good but not great speed and he doesn't play as fast as his timed speed. He's never been able to add functional strength and gets knocked off the puck too easily. He's responsible defensively but depends on his stick. A dependable middle six center who was never able to develop into a 2C.

They don't fit the Flyers style, which is fast and physical down the middle (Cates, Poehling, Jett), allowing a mix of size and skill at wing (TK, Brink, Michkov and Tippett, Foerster). Which suggests they're looking for another center in trade/the draft who fits their prototype - full size, above average speed, high IQ, two way player.

This move suggests Briere is ready for a fire sale this spring, if they thought they could stay in the playoff race they'd have waited until June to move Frost.
Farabee isn't a reliable second line winger. Not like median second line winger Noah Cates.

Frost was top six by default (though Couts has outscored him at ES, 23 to 18).
Farabee was the 3LW.
They would not have been top six next year, I think they had already slotted Jett ahead of Frost.
Michkov, TK, Tippett, Foerster, Brink were all ahead of Farabee. Pelletier will replace him on the 3rd line.

Frost wasn't suppressed, he just wasn't as good as people here think he was. He played with Michkov, TK and Tippett, our three best scoring forwards and had mediocre production.
In Calgary he'll play with Farabee and Sharangovich on their 3rd line.
Abols will replace him in the short-run, but his long-term replacement isn't on the team.

I have no problem losing these two, I just wish they had obtained a 1st or one of Calgary's better prospects.
Just for posterity, do you still not believe this is the trade return because it doesn't make a lick of sense? I'm trying to correctly position where on the boot it is exactly you planted your tongue.

Frost was producing points at the same rate golden child Tippet was by the way. One we sign for 8 years and one we trade for table scraps.

You guys will love Pelts, sucks losing him. Might be the biggest glue guy I’ve ever seen. He’s been playing really well since his last call-up. He won’t be much more than a middle six guy that kills penalties and chips in 15-20 in his prime, but you guys will love him.

Kuzy is hilarious. He’s an easy guy to cheer for. His interviews are the best. Play wise, when he’s on, he’s f***ing great. When he’s off, you won’t even notice him.

I don’t think you guys did as bad as everyone is saying. Especially finding out that Kuzy and Michkov are good buddies.

Anyways, take care of Pelts. He’s the friggin best

Flames fan here, just giving my observations on the players.

Pelletier is a hard working player who doesn't take shifts off. He also is good for the room as he has a great attitude, his teammates loved him. With regards to his skill, he has played up and down the lineup, he has some potential to be a 2nd/3rd line guy but size and consistency is an issue. He was great for us the last few weeks, so hopefully he has continued success. You'll cheer for him for sure, it's a bit weird he was on waivers earlier in the year unclaimed but he was also recovering from an injury.

Kuzmenko is a bit of an interesting player. He has really hot and cold streaks. He started last year by being one of our best players after the trade and rejuvenated the pp. However, this year he has been in and out of the lineup because of defensive effort issues. He has played better lately but it seems it's an effort thing with him, he has tons of talent otherwise. One of those cases where he could put up 40 goals if he wanted to but just seems he does not care most of the time.

I’d just like to take this opportunity to introduce the idea of everyone here, as a group, totally abandoning this dead franchise and switching fandom to a completely different team, in a completely different sport.

That way we maintain this board’s dynamic while removing the biggest source of irritation from the equation.

We just rebrand the board, delete all old threads, change some usernames/avatars, and pretend nothing happened. Nobody will even notice.

Just need to find a team that doesn’t have a single person named Bobby, Keith, Danny, or John employed and were set.

He still somehow scored 39 goals in 81 games for Vancouver in his rookie season and then 14 goals in 29 games for Calgary in the previous one. Now look at Farabee.

I don't understand fans logic sometimes. First they whine the team turns Michkov into a grinder, and then they whine the player the team gets isn't grinding enough. Sometimes you just need skill and IQ over skating fast and hit everything. Especially given Farabee wasn't great in those things either.
And het he’s been benched on both teams he’s been on, healthy scratched on both and now traded from both. What does that say?

He’s a KHL guy trying to have an NHL career. Torts will hate his guts within one period and the fans will likely agree with him.

His lucky year with the Canucks is the only reason he will continue to get looks from teams who just need to fill a roster spot.

No reason to try and dress up a turd like this. He wears out his welcomes incredibly fast because he’s the most one dimensional player you could ever find.

Disappointed we could not get more return. Happy for Frost and Farabee and wish them well. They seem like good guys.

This return tells me there was a cost to “eat” Farabee’s contract and the Flyers paid it. They better have something else planned. Doubtful either of the players they got back figure in the Flyers plans.

Short term we get a Russian buddy for our rising star. Also feel the Flyers do not want to pay Frost what he is likely worth on his next contract. The Flyers clearly do not value Frost and Farabee.

What we get, though much is speculation rather than reality:

- 2025 and ‘26 picks in the 5-9 range vs 10-15 and, big if, higher lottery odds; what is the cost in draft capital to trade from say 13 to 8?

- two “audition spots” in ‘26 for young players; who, I have no idea.

- 2nd rounder may be > Frost or Farabee some day.

- move Laughton back to center to hopefully drive up his value.

- a lot of future cap space.

- tells the rest of the league bargains can be had so more moves possible.

- Pettersson trade maybe more likely; what do they offer? York, Tippet and Luchanko which makes us worse short term and increases the quality of future draft picks.

Just spitballing here trying to convince myself something good could come out of this. We will know in 5 years.

There is a path to a good outcome. At least this is what I am trying to convince myself of to avoid misery.

Haven’t had a chance to read all the comments. Apologies if these points were covered already.

DANY ... i just don't get it...

I very rarely post anything because this place is a cesspit of negativity. But holy shit, I’ve been converted. I’m not even mad at the trade return. Frost and Farbabee are fine. But they werent getting anything of real value back. We see them day to day. I’m mad at the fact that we have ZERO talent on this team and at most 3-5 guys with real trade value. But instead of hiring a coach that can improve each players individual offensive play, we hire a coach that wants to minimize creativity and play a checking style that sucks the personality out of every single player. We squeak out just enough wins to not get the exceptional talent, but play such a boring hockey to get them. I’d rather watch the TGL on a random weekday night. No player, has improved their individual offensive skill since TORTS has been here. we would be much better served, over the last couple of years, to have a coach that played an offensive style, and I tried to get these players better individually. At least in that case, we would be entertaining to watch, lose more, and each player would have better value when it came to trades. We have the exact inverse of that. We are literally living through hell.

Sounds like the type of player people here will make fun of and find a silly nickname for.
