Bonafide tank killer right now.

Habs are not a good team, but they are racking up points in a year where a bottom 5 finish could be org changing.

Contract is a bit high but if maybe a team like NJ would be willing to invest a little extra on the G position for some depth?

Phi in same exact situation (bad team overperforming bc goalie). Imagine the haul they would get vs Allen: 3 time better numbers, 8 yrs younger, same salary.
But teams do not play to lose, not until they are out of it.
If Fedotov hadnt been Poutined, maybe, just maybe they would have entertained the thought of trading Hart and going with all Euro goalies but unlikely.

Man the return would be crazy.

I agree, if the price is good Jake should go. The issue is goalies are voodoo, and it seems like they’ve made a commitment to him, which is reflected in his contract.

The other option is trading Savard IMO. Probably doesn’t have the same immediate effect, but it will decimate the RHD and he plays a position which is high demand around the league.

Both Allen and Montembeault won't sustain their current levels.

Yes they will cause the team is better than last year and our D is better too. Allen and Monty are not terrible goalies but people will look at stats from last season and ignore team confidence/momentum.

He's killing the tank but is overpaid? Huh?

Either he's not going to actually kill the tank or he's not overpaid.

Problem is the Habs don't have tank strategy. This is fan talk that is not aligned with what Management is heading towards.

There's a gap between "Terrible" and "Collectively Vezina Level".

Don't see it happening they signed him to an extension for a reason and that was not having to go with Mont and Primeau.

Agreed. The Habs management don't have tank fever. Some fans do. Gorton/Hughes/MSL and the players have a different plan. This plan is a hard working culture and good development. They are not going to rip it apart and tank on purpose from Oct-Dec. If they struggle and are bottom 10 come Jan, they will look at how they can trade some vets or expiring contracts for futures then. Not now.

There's a gap between "Terrible" and "Collectively Vezina Level".

Yes that is correct but they are not as bad as what was presented to us last season. The team had low confidence/momentum and their team D was very bad. These things have ripple effects to goalies... even Price.

Jake Allen pretty much played, and is, something of an okay 1B or very, very good 2.

IMO Allen has always been a good goalie and worthy of being a legit starter. Binnington had his cup run so Blues kept him but Allen is by far the better goalie over his career.

He has been playing much better than "legit starter".

There is no doubt about it. Allen is better than what the average fan gives him credit for. I feel he is a perfect 1A/1B guy to have and so many teams have this strategy cause there is simply not that many top notch goalies in the NHL today.

Take your pick... 1A or 1B. Depends on who the other guy is.

Allen and Savard and two veterans that are key to the rebuild. Thankfully Hughes knows this and won't blow up the teams chemistry on a never ending chase for draft picks.

Fans obsession with losing to win is misguided. The whole point is to develop a team that can win - Montreals young core looks great, we have 3 rookie D playing 17-22 mins a night, Suzuki and CC are point per game. Dach looks like a true top 6. No one in their right mind would trade Allen or Savard to get a slightly high draft pick.

Exactly. Been saying that at start of the year. Once again we will be stuck in mediocrity forever! We need more top 5 picks and Allen is killing us.

Both Allen and Montembault are killing us. The transformation of Montembault is surprising. He stopped shots that he would let in last year. He become more confident and our players realized they can win with him in net.

I wish I could offer my services to the Habs and play goal. Would really help the tank.

As much as it would help the tank in terms of MAYBE getting a top player, even if it's not THE top player, you can't discount the positive effect this season has been having on the development of the young players we already have that are experiencing exciting and relatively successful hockey.

Monty showed some signs of his potential last year. He really battled through that rough season and played some very good games. Lots of bad games yeah but the team just sucked.

Not saying you did but so many other fans did.... Roster was full of injuries and it had horrible confidence/momentum last season. People looked at Allen and Monty's stats and think that reflects how good or bad they are? Come on man... it doesn't work exactly like that.

Seems like a perfect candidate for the Kings but let's see if the fanbase realizes it vs trading for a prospect.
