Value of: Montreal should trade Jake Allen - he's been too good.

Exactly. Been saying that at start of the year. Once again we will be stuck in mediocrity forever! We need more top 5 picks and Allen is killing us.

Fan tank fever means nothing. I get your point but you don't come into a season with a tank plan.

Coyotes are 23rd in the standings bud. It's likely they slip but are management and players playing tank strategy? This is not the CHL.

Consider this... Habs finish bottom 5 and a team from bottom 6-8 wins the draft lottery. What will you say then? Should have at least tried and maybe we finish in that bottom 6-8 range.

Talent from 3-8 range will be a waive. It usually is. I think the Habs finish bottom 5-10 range or at best, bottom 8-12 range. Lots of ignorant Habs fans tried to belittle that.

Yes, you are right. It's not guaranteed to get number 1. But we sure as hell would like the best odds.

The best odds you can get is 18.5% if you magically finish last. I'd love another top 5 pick but this is fan tank fever talk.

Back/back years where last place wins the draft lottery. I'm willing to bet someone from 3-8 range wins the lottery. Let the cards fall where they fall. Tank fever gets you nowhere as fan.

I keep hearing about how the top 5 in the next draft are better than this year's #1, so of course i would love the habs to get one of those. However, i think tanking destroys chemistry and culture within an organization. The way things are now, i actually think the habs would be even better with more youngsters, and the ones in place dont play like anyone who thinks they wont make the playoffs.

If the Habs traded Jake Allen for picks, they'd likely be dealing with an open revolt in the dressing room. It would be a disastrous decision and there is no way the Canadiens are trading him unless they have another moved lined-up for an upgrade.

Allen has always done this. He is elite until you ride him too hard and then he sucks ass. Habs should just keep playing him and eventually he will suck. No team should be fooled by a clear pattern with his play.

Canadiens have a lot draft picks already including 2023 Panthers 1st round
Why be so greedy?
Play it out with hot goaltenders
Maybe Habs can still get Bedard if Panthers dont make PO

They could have let him remain a pending UFA and he might have had more value (or at least been easier to find a fit).

Maybe they shouldn't have, but the fact they just extended him makes me think he won't get dealt.

Rather take that 18.5 % than that 1% or whatever it maybe any day of the week. Especially in this coming draft.

he just extended for two years because he loves playing in Montreal, understands the rebuild and is close to his home in Fredericton. It would be a douchebag move for Hughes to deal him, unless he wanted to compete for a cup.

I'd trade him for a bunch of picks

Not a 1st of course, but a 2nd, a 4th and an expiring countract (cap purpose) or something like this

Both Allen and Montembeault won't sustain their current levels.
Exactly. whan Goalie is playing well for one team dosnt it mean they’re gonna play the same way on a new team. We have seen this picture over and over through the years.

Who cares about 18.5%. If you finish last the worst you can end up with is the 3rd pick. That's Michkov or Yager at worst. It only matters if the draft had a Bedard level player and then the drop off as steep.

I doubt HuGo will move him for less than 1st or equivalent. It may be Allen+ but it won't be for an underwhelming offer.

No way MTL will get Bedard. Hockey gods wont allow that bs

How many #1 picks can you get like that

Forget it!

You must be new to hockey.

Weird that you made your account in 2009 yet have not heard of the Edmonton Oilers. I'd also point to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres.

"If" you finish last. That's the point and if you wanted the Habs to finish last, we had to unload a few guys to insert more youth. Last year's season was a complete mess and the Habs are not a sure shot bottom 5 team.

Lets look at it in Dec/Jan and see where we stand there. That's basically what all GM's do
