I don't really like dogs (and they even tend to scare me at a certain point, youth trauma), but that's just imbecile.

In England and Wales the Dangerous Dogs Act prohibits the ownership of American Pit Bull Terriers, along with three other breeds. The Act also bans the breeding, sale and exchange of these dogs.[49] Similar legislation in Australia has been criticized by veterinary professionals.[41]

Your title is wrong.

The bill plans to ban the adoption of new pitbulls (and other "dangerous", apparently, dogs), but if you already have one, you will be allowed to keep it, by following stricter regulation, and you will need to have a special license

That's not that unusual for pitbulls. You can read articles like that every month or more.

In court the other day there was a police application to have a pit bull "destroyed" and the two doggy blokes from the local police came with the woman to contest the application

They were like "hurrdy durr it's never hurt anyone before it's a big softie"

I'm just sat there thinking that's exactly what the news articles always say after one has mauled a toddler's face off, it's always the ones with good temperament who have "never hurt a fly"

For info, the race of the dog has never been confirmed, only speculated by the media. There are reports it might have been a bulldog.

I'm not a big dog guy, but I'm with president Obama on this issue.

President Obama said “[w]e don’t support breed-specific legislation—research shows that bans on certain types of dogs are largely ineffective and often a waste of public resources. And the simple fact is that dogs of any breed can become dangerous when they’re intentionally or unintentionally raised to be aggressive.”
