I guess MT is TRYING to replicate some of what Weise brings to that line. Physical presence that will create space for his two linemates. I hope DSP takes this chance that is given to him and makes the most of it.

I thought dsp looked good with DD last year. He's gonna need to bury though cause you know DD is gonna look to find him in front.

Small guys tend to be quicker and shiftier though. Still think we need size though but I think size plays a bigger factor on the wing.

Quicker I'm not sure about, shiftier for yes, but while they might be quicker they also have little puck protection, puck reach and so forth.

In terms of size being important on the wing, sure, but more important at centre to win the cup.

Can't think of the last team to win a cup with having a big centre. maybe Detriot..

This is a MUST WIN...

having said that, and having followed the Oilers for four years (as a Petry fan-boy)...

seeing the goalie in net tonight really is depressing to me

Markov's decline has proven that trading Beaulieu would be incredibly stupid.

I don't know what's with him. Fatigue already? Age? The issues are as much mental as physical -- poor passes, poor pass reception, erratic positioning. I won't write him off yet, but they have to address this way before April.

But yeah, with or without Markov there's no frikkin way we lose Beaulieu.

It's fatigue alright. Therrien was, and still is, playing him like it is a video game. Stamina doesn't mean **** in video games but it does in real life. The way to address it is to cut his minutes and use fresh legs(Beaulieu) for those minutes.

I don't know, but the decline happened so fast this season. It looks like age just caught up to him out of nowhere.

Same here, I remember the first time I watched Scrivens and thought "Boy this guy won't be in the NHL too long, he looks too awkward in net!" and now here we are.

Definitely agree Markov's minutes need to be reduced. Or he needs to sit out for a few. He's a proud athlete who has certainly earned respect ten times over, but Therrien needs to manage him because he's playing substandard hockey.

I don't get it either. I can understand a brain-fart here and there, but Markov's game is apparently on an all-bean diet these days.

Especially when there are two defenceman who are growing mold because they've been sitting for so long this season. Get these guys playing already and let Markov rest.

Of course, we've been calling this for years. To be fair, Therrien did reduce his minutes down to around 23 per game, but apparently, this should have been done last year instead. Now it seems that 23min. is too much. He also played 24 min. or more 16 times this year. He just can't handle it anymore.

That's also another area where Therrien is terrible. His bench management can be pathetic on any given night, but the overall, long-term picture isn't any better. He basically fails at everything related to bench management:

-period to period: Subban can end up playing 12 min. in one period if we have a lot of PP/PK. Not ideal.

-game to game: A guy like Desharnais is consistently overused and Galchenyuk is underused. Because.

-month to month: A guy like Markov is completely gassed and instead of managing, the coach waits for too long and then goes completely ballistic and demotes him to the third pairing for a few games. Then back to normal. Doesn't make an ounce of sense.

And even over the whole season, it seems they sometimes come up with a plan and won't bulge an inch even if it doesn't make sense on a given instance. Subban playing both PP/PK being a prime example: sometimes it would make sense to give him a break instead of playing him 12 min. during one period.

Or sometimes it feels like they come into the season thinking 'we'll play Galchenyuk 15 min. per game' and won't adjust even though Galchenyuk's play (and results) should be rewarded with more minutes.

Philly seems to be a tough place for Montreal even when things are going well.

I fear a lethargic game coming back indoors.

I miss White, happy to see him playing on the 3rd line and being a regular on a roster.
