I am worried about the offence not the d. The problem has been goal scoring.

Me too.

D-men will get used to play with each other pretty soon. I am confident Schlemko + Jerebek will add much needed speed. Price will be Price again. But the offence needs a huge electro shock.

If MB has still near 8M $ under cap space, it is because he gambled to re-sign or trade for some players over the Summer and he failed. Now he has to wait for opportunities that might happen not before the trade deadline. Will it be too late ?

I do still believe though that Emelin and Beaulieu have been adequately replaced by Alzner and Schlemko (and Jerebek).

We had the same trend in the preseason but people said it was because the guys were basically just going through the motions because they were assured a roster spot.

Have to bring this up again because some people are claiming our offense looks fine and the goals will come. It's not just these two regular season games and the preseason. It's a continuation of the trend down the stretch last year. Outshoot the opponent and generate a large number of low percentage scoring chances, score ~2 goals per game.

Crazy to think that Petry career best is 28 points and +3, happened last year

Beaulieu had 28 points +8 in 6 less games just last year.

Petry is a number 3 ideally. Elite #4?
It's too bad we didn't trade for Beaulieu.
He'd automatically double in value.

Watched Leafs Rangers last night...

Leafs had Lundqvist figured out going low blocker.

Deangelo will give Vigneault a few grey hairs this season.

Nash looked as good as he did in the playoffs last spring.

Kreider was providing a very effective screen on the powerplay.

Rangers can score but they give em up too.
To a team that can score...

I think the best shot we have is to try what appear to be our 2 best PMD in the top 6. I mean Mete and Jerabek. One as Webers partner and the other for the bottom pairing. The other guys just do not seem close to cutting it and I agree, Schlemko is more a bottom pairing guy.

Wrong, the two are very connected like you cant have one without the other. There are many nights when the D needs to help give the forwards a lift in the form of offence , every good team has this because it makes the team harder to play against thus harder to beat. You need mobility on D and we even lacked some of it last year but this year, yikes it looks bad.

I agree that if one of Benn or Streit or both of them stink it up again tonight that they should be sitting in the press box. Streit should only be on the ice as an injury replacement, he's done anyway.

I was wondering if anyone else was as pleased as I was to see Benn and Petry playing inverted in our end of the rink. I've been complaining about this for over a year now. JJD it's time to admit 'It doesn't work' It didn't work last year either BTW...

`Net presence`

At least two of the Rangers goals Andersen never saw, thanks to Kreider.

The Habs get tons of shots but without the net presence life is good for the opponent goaltender.

It`s probably why they tried to sign Lucic but what would be better if they drafted this type of player once in awhile, because they are seldom available as free agents or for trade..

Yes Streit is done.

Yet another guy, like Semin, Ott, King, whose last NHL paycheque before retiring or ending their career in Europe, is from the Habs.

Friend who is a big Stars fan told at the time of the trade I was not going to like Benn.

Benn was terrible in the six games against Rangers last spring.

Exact same situation with me lol. I'd text my friend, "Benn actually looks good, wtf" and he would tell me "just wait." Boy was he right.

Because they are making a lot of money even with a mediocre on ice product. They can even afford to save 8.5 on the capspace and fans are still paying to watch this mess.

I think there is plenty of truth in this, look at hockey mad Toronto and all of the years of garbage hockey that fan base has endured all while being the most valuable hockey franchise in the world. When fans say that we have become the Leafs they are bang on because that's just what we are. Selling nostalgia to fans who in most cases weren't even born when the habs were the model franchise to the entire hockey world.

Hopefully Drouin will become that explosive offensive player that we so desperately need.

In the meantime, I don't think Plekanec should be in the top-6, and I don't want Gallagher as our 1st line RW:
Max PaciorettyJonathan DrouinArtturi Lehkonen
Charles HudonAlex GalchenyukBrendan Gallagher
Paul ByronTomas PlekanecPhillip Danault
Ales HemskyJacob De La RoseAndrew Shaw

It's the crazy girlfriend you bring home to meet your parents just before she goes on an all-out, extended psycho rampage.

Benn's mediocrity has come home to roost.

Yes because our 2 goals against Robin Lehner and a Beaulieu-led Sabres D would suggest this.

lol. Good point.

Sabres got hammered by Islanders after Isles were routed 5-0 by Columbus.

conclusion......so far same old sabres.

I agree that things didnt look great last night, but consider a couple things. They got off to a bad start very quickly and couldnt recover. The 1st ovechkin goal was a blind shot while the puck was on end (there is an element of luck that it went top corner). Price looked like he was moving unusually slow that game. Lastly, half the defence are brand new to the team. Not to mention the new forwards. Lets give them time and see if they gel. I was pissed too, but give it some time. The Pens lost 10-1 the other night. It happens.

Some changes to the line-up.

I called the Hemsky out and Mitchell in in the post-game thread. I didn't anticipate a Davidson in for Streit move.

I can see Mitchell helping out. But Davidson doesn't exactly fill me with comfort. Here's hoping he proves me wrong.

It's a shame though. Because since there is less of a chance to predict who will score next, I like trying to predict how many minor penalties Hemsky can get in a game.
