Why not... If he deserves it.

Yeah, like Montreal media and fans have ever been reasonable regarding a player's cap hit and salary. PK gets signed to Doughty money, people will have a ****-fit within a year and want him traded for cap space.

Good deal for the habs though, as for relations between the team and Subban and long-term cap hit, we'll see.

To all you Bergevin haters from the other thread.... lol!!

We were 100% justified in our hatred. Bergevin low balled him like crazy and made him hold out for no reason. He makes less than MDZ that's laughable.

If anything it's all those who blamed Subban for the hold out who have just been proven wrong.

That's what I figured. Prorated for 44 games this year, equals roughly 7.5 mil for 2 full years. Nice!

Close to what I was hoping for. I liked $3.5. PK gets a little bit more.

Awesomeness.

Now Bergevin will have some money next year with Gomez off the books to really improve this team. Buy out Kaberle and we can really get some upgrades.

Great day for the Habs organization.

GREAT time to be a Habs fan

Gorges-Subban
Markov-Emelin
Bouillon-Diaz

Is a damn fine d, especially with how good Markov-Emelin has looked.

Prust is looking to be worth his 2.5, Patches' contract, Gorges' contract, the Gally pick, now this...Bergevin is gold

No, Bergevin still did a terrible job on this. He's lucky that Subban's attachment to the Habs outweighs his pride. This could have very easily gone very wrong.

It still can. Short term gain for long term pain is bad economics. The fact that we will have a lot more cap space in two years only increases Subban's bargaining power then. Bergevin is thinking short term.

But at this point, I just am happy to have Subban back. We don't have to think about this for another two years, so let's enjoy it while we can.

he'll still be a rfa next contract. meaning, management in the drivers seat but regardless, if he plays well he will get the big contract he earns or, if average, one that reflects that.

fair for both sides. And, so amazing to have subban back with the habs!!!

This is a really impressive deal by Bergevin. I am shocked at how he did this.

You make it sound like signing a top young player is a feat...

This should have been done months ago. And he should have been signed to a long term deal. But whatever, I'll let everyone rejoice over a RFA signing like this wasn't supposed to happen.

Seriously, all posters that bashed Bergevin are now able to see one of the best young defenders play with a low cap hit for the next two years. These PK threads were numerous and filled with PK fanboys without having a clue how negotiations work.

Glad he's back with us. We can now move on.

It was a big gamble from our seats. But most of us have never met PK, never really knew how far he'd take it, how much he really loved it as a Hab. Obviously Bergevin has more insight into that, more to go on in choosing the successful bluff. He was a hardass, but it worked out for us. As long as there are no hard feelings. And everything goes ok on the next contract.

MB definitely "won" in the short-term and it is good for the habs in the next two years. We'll see long term. Glad to have PK back and Kudos to MB

Fair deal. Similar to the Del Zotto deal in overall value.

Glad PK and Meehan finally came to their senses.

In two seasons, Montreal will have Markov, Kaberle and Gionta as UFAs.

Subban can pretty much ask for the moon then.

That was the idea behind Bergevin's plan. More money will be free later.

Glad PK came to that realization.

All this commotion, holding out, going to the media and he just caves? Someone should slap him, and I hope it's Bergevin.
