Some of you guys take an old hockey rivalry too far. We haven't even been true hockey rivals (ie playoff series') for decades. I would definitely rather see Montreal win the Cup over Tampa. They're a great hockey town and original 6 vs Tampa - - - - ing Bay, who just won last year. All Torontonians should rather see Montreal win. It's better for hockey, it's better for Canada. Fwiw I also love traveling to Montreal, the food is fantastic.

It all depends what your personal perspective and experience is. As a die hard Leaf fan who lived in Montreal for a while in the late 2000s, thinking about how much they despise our team makes my blood boil. It definitely opened up my eyes to the rivalry (I was more of an Ottawa hater before, as we played them many times in the playoffs during my childhood) and made me a life-long Hab hater. If you only go to Montreal for short vacations, I understand that you won't pick up on that vibe.

It's beyond me why any Leaf fan would wan to give their fan base those bragging rights of winning another Cup. I get that the whole concept of cheering for grown man in uniforms pushing a puck over the goal line is silly. However, if you chose to partake in that and support one team in particular, why would you want the enemy team to win?

So yea, I'll take the astroid option as well rather than them winning the Cup.

people just love to jump the gun, they said the Leafs had the series in the bag when they went up 3-1

it isn't over yet... stop jinxing it ;)
While I do agree about it not being over, it kinda is. Tampa isn’t Toronto. We have a choker label. Tampa has already shed that.

3-0 series lead is almost impossible to comeback from. I doubt the Habs do it

Yes I can appreciate the explanation and logic here. I guess it's a much more individualized sentiment - I really don't interact with many Habs fans at all, save for a few at work. There is friendly teasing back and forth but nothing that would make me angry or wish that the Habs lose to make me feel better or anything. I grew up as a kid watching Gilmour/Sundin's Leafs and the only real rivalry with animosity that I can remember was Ottawa. But that was an entirely different Ottawa team/regime and it has since died down for obvious reasons, so I don't even feel any animosity there either. Boston would be the most modern version of a Leafs rivalry probably. But again, for me anyway, I kind of stop paying attention to hockey (other than highlights) once the Leafs are knocked out and starting their offseason. For me, I really couldn't care less who wins the Cup other than the Leafs. I suppose I'd prefer teams that haven't won the Cup to win, and good hockey cities/fanbases over others, but even there I just don't care. I'm getting no joy seeing the Habs on the verge of being swept in the Finals, just as I'd see no joy if they were about to sweep the Lightning - just complete apathy in a Leafs-less NHL.

Just read this choker on sportsnet

Why Canadiens have taken on role of 'Canada's team' for the first time - Sportsnet.ca

Outside of maybe poulin and a couple others does anybody honestly think that the Montreal canadiens are Canada’s team…personally it made me want to puke as I’m sure most fans out west would feel similarly same as in Ottawa…but sure why not

Canadian hockey fans by and large are tribal by nature which means our team or no team…let’s be honest here
Disagree? Hit me with it

Hey listen all the Leafs had to do to claim the throne was beat the lowly Habs. But it was too much for the glorious Leafs.

if I had my choice, id take Our roster over Montreal's. Most Leaf fans are still Leaf fans so .... Leafs are Canada's team. Always were always will be.

I've always been and always will be a Leafs fan, but I can't dispute that this year the Habs have earned the title. It hurts to say that!

If that's true, it's hard to believe that the Leafs were done 1st round and Montreal went all the way to the finals. Some stats don't add up.

I’d be more inclined to support other Canadian teams if the rest of this country didn’t have a vicious and irrational hatred for all things Toronto.

I will always bleed blue and white but I acknowledge that the Habs were the best team in Canada this season. By a long shot too.

Weird how the CN Tower will fly the Canadiens colors but won't do it for the country. We live in clown world.

well here we go... cue the comeback

Overtime... Tampa couldn't score on the PP.... even before the powerplay was up, we already knew how this story was going to unfold: Montreal will score after the powerplay expries... and bingo. Wouldn't ya know it

Habs in 7.

You heard it here first
