At this point i wouldn't be shocked if Sweeney signed Zadorov because someone called him Big Z, which led him to believe he was getting prime Zdeno Chara.

I just read this to my wife and she turned and corroborated it to an extent.
Re. Cam "he's an A-hole, I met him twice and both times it was the same attitude."
I met him once on a plane flying from DC to Boston - mid afternoon flight that was largely empty. This was back when he was not playing trying to rehab the leg/knee.

I went back and asked him to sign a USA today newspaper for my wife. As I mentioned, flight was empty so while he signed I just plonked down in the aisle seat opposite him. We ended up talking for about 40 minutes and he easily asked me as much about what I did as I did him about hockey. We walked off the plane together and out the airport before I peeled off into a Hudson News just to give him a graceful exit.

Just one experience and has nothing to do with his abilities as an executive ... but from my experience at least a very nice guy - a smart guy - and someone who lived up to how I'd hope a sports hero to be than any other player I've ever met.

And to be fair -- the story about him sitting at a bar with a friend and some rando fan comes up to talk to them???? I'd give him some brief polite talk, sign an autograph, and if he didn't have the tact to then bugger off I'd suggest he do so. Remember the scene in one of the Hangover movies when Alan hires Mike Tyson to sing at the wedding? "We only have him for the night, we don't own him permanently".

Great breakdown. LQ is easily becoming one of the best voices on the Bruins imo.

The guy makes some good points, especially about Monty's lack of playoff success and mismanaging assets - letting Bergeron play and get injured, playing Ullmark even though he was hurt, etc. Hindsight is 20/20, but looking back, better decisions could have been made.

And I agree: lots of blame to go around. The one narrative I'd question, though, for a couple of reasons, is this idea that Sweeney went for size in the off-season at the expense of speed. Several people have said this. Yes, he added Zadorov for more size and snarl on the backend, but he also added E Lindholm, who is not big. And, by deciding to keep Poitras up with the big club, that's almost like an "add," and Potsy is definitely not big.

I suppose one could argue that losing DeBrusk meant that Brazeau or Geekie move up, and they're a little bigger, but they were also here last year. Of the other new guys that were new adds, Kastelic and Koepke, Kastelic has size, but he's also been one of the more effective players this season, and in general, the heavy (with Beecher) 4th line has been maybe the only consistently effective line thus far.

So, other than Zadorov, where is this off-season move towards size that appears to be sinking the team right now?

The other thing is, isn't getting bigger, especially on the backend, what everybody said we needed in order to handle teams like the Panthers in the playoffs? That's what I heard so many people say after last year's loss to the Panthers.

It's like a never-ending pendulum of opinion between size and speed/skill.

We need size!
Now we're too slow! We need speed!
Now we're too small! We need size!
and so on....

It all makes sense now. Sacco's been the phantom assistant all of these years. A Casper like approach with the team. My goodness.

I also agree that part of this squad's present malaise is due to the loss of leadership over the past few years. The old core had it in spades. Maybe Marchand is doing a decent job carrying the torch, but I do find myself still wondering if he's real Captain material. I don't think McAvoy or Pasta are devoid of leadership skills, but I don't think either possess the kind of "born leader" qualities that are needed.

"I need to get relationships with these guys." - Joe Sacco

Again, how long has Sacco been with the team?
Yike. That's not a confidence booster. Your big moment to be a head coach again and that's what you choose to lead with??????

"I'm eager to find out where Elias played last season and if Wotherspoon's name is real or a funny reference to something."

As long as relationship building isn’t asking the entire team to hand over their phones so he can scroll through their family photos.

We shouldve just traded swayman and kept ullmark.
training camp wouldve been normal and we wouldve had more money to spend.
I still blame Swayman for this horrid start

I have empathy for rigors of what these guys do despite the high psycheck every season. But I’m having a really hard time hearing about a team that is holding a grudge against a player because he leaned into the business side of the job for a few months.

If this really is a big factor in their struggles, I’m pretty concerned. I know they’re all human but that seems like the quite the collective fragility and not enough pride.

Possible assumption :-something is not going well in the locker room.

“Really looking forward to the first chat I have with Marchy, heard great things about him. Gonna be fun finding out if he’s really 5’9 or if that’s been exaggerated.
Bold part is my humble observation when I met him once. ! But the guy is really cool.

Everyone who is saying sacco should have done this and that under his tenure with bruins being assistant coach and being a head coach is a different ballgame. Mike milbury even stated that assistant coach cant really do the things he wants to do because of head coach final word. Let's give sacco a fair shake here. I'm hoping he turns this team around and like I've said before the team is solid on paper and needs to get their head out of arse and start playing. Win against Utah at home and get those 2 points and climb first into wc2 and work from there.
