To those saying that the idea of Bruins “culture” is overrated, look no further than a team like Toronto and try to tell me there is no discernible difference to how both teams conduct themselves.

Despite the fun we have beating Toronto in the playoffs, both teams have enjoyed a similar level of success.

Shouldn’t culture give a team a fairly significant edge in performance and results?

So funny to me that people actually think a new coach will make any kind of difference at all.

We have inferior ingredients. Not even a Michelin chef could make them into a delicious dish.

***i just read KPD’s article after posting this. He drew similar analogy. I hate being unoriginal so I post this statement fwiw ***

This isn’t the greatest comparison. There are a dozen better examples. While the bruins have been more successful than the leafs, it’s really not by much and Toronto is a dumpster fire.

This would actually more contradict your point than make it.

Would be much more valid if you used the flyers or something.

Can I personally thank his wife if that's true? Guy should have been canned a few years ago after that historical playoff round choke job with that roster.

He was a boring personality behind the beach that never stood up for his team being screwed over time and time again by bad officiating.

Just stood there and took it, Im sure his players appreciated that.

Good riddance Jim best of luck
Me think you did not like Jim!

We will see how everything goes from here. If you are correct, season will be very long.....I really wish you are wrong.

Not by much? I’m just as disappointed as anybody by the Bruins perpetual 2nd round playoff exits, but let’s also not act like the Leafs have so much as sniffed the finals in the same time span.

I knew that’s where you guys were going to go with it.

Do you wanna compare records for both teams since say Chara was signed?

The culture from the day Chara was signed to today isn’t the same. And it shouldn’t be, it grows and evolves.

The point of anything in sports is to gain a competitive advantage to win championships. Minus 2011 (and a blown deep run in 2019), the two teams are fairly even there.

I’m a big culture person, I just think it’s overblown as a benefit in Boston and think people look to the teams of 10+ years ago thinking it’s the same culture when it’s not.

I guess what I’m saying is that the pride and accountability, the core ethos that this team is built around, is what is lacking rightnow. Unfortunately I think it starts at the top, and I wouldn’t absolve the players. Certainly not Swayman or Elias Lindholm (who I’m not certain has bought in, or “gets” it).

Hell, It pains me to say it, but in not even sure Marchand is the player to motivate or instill the team with that sense of pride. Love the guy, he’s a heart and soul type of player, but I actually don’t think he is.

I think we’re kind of arguing the same thing.

Maybe by asking questions I was misrepresenting where I was going with it.

My favorite part in this is they pulled this exact f***ing card when they chucked Cassidy under the bus and backed up over him. And Ownership is letting them do the exact same f***ing thing again.

Monty seemed well liked by the players - I haven't heard or seen a rumor of players disgruntled with him. It didn't seem like that was the case with Cassidy.

I heard that theory on the radio today. That there was a kind of carryover from 15 years of structure and culture and Monty rode those coattails.

That Monty said many times in his first year that the team pretty much coached themselves. Then last year all those good habits and work ethic started to erode and they went .500 in the second half.

Again, not my theory. Don't shoot the messenger.
Yep, his decision making his first year cost the Bruins the Cup. Let us not forget, he agreed, but facts are facts.
