Luckily this is a fake concept that doesn’t mean anything
What the heck does this mean?

If you're a betting man, do those look like factoids that give you confidence that this team can make a long run?

Yes yes there are examples of teams that have done some really poor things in the regular season that went on to have a lot of playoff success. There are exceptions to everything.

They had this same stupid lull in 22/23, I'm not totally worried in the long run. The issues they have now they've had the WHOLE year if you've been seriously watching. I don't think the Canes also broke them. They just acted stupid on this trip and thought they could waltz over these teams by playing at 50%

After last season I would of been content for the 24-25 season just to make the playoffs and see what happens. After the level of play we saw before this 4 game skid it would disappointing to just be a one and done this year. Top 6 and the D play was bound to cool off a bit and this is where the bottom 6 lack of scoring hurts the most.

I really do think they're even an average bottom 6 away from being the best team in the league. I also just don't think they're in a position to be able to accomplish that this season and thus likely get bounced by Carolina and if not Carolina then Washington.

Losing to both the Ducks and Sharks in regulation on the same trip, both on late regulation goals is definitely worthy of a Stan Fischler rant tweet, lambasting us for losing to HUMPTY teams.
They have been crappy but it was kind of cruel they didn’t get at least 2 points total from those 2 games.

Hey the Cotter-Haula pairing has finally managed to crack 50% for the season to date. Unfortunately down 16-10 in actual goals and on for all 3 against today. Good job never breaking up that duo though Sheldon!!

We're probably okay overall, we're still in the playoffs by A LOT, as I keep saying, every team in the East that's over NHL 500 currently occupies a playoff spot. That could change with tonight if one of the seemingly 16 teams in the East who are NHL 500 get a win, but it's been that way for the better part of the last 6 weeks. And Pittsburgh raced all the way back to NHL 500 to still not be able to break it. The Flyers and Columbus have both been chasing 500 for a while and can't get over it.

But if anything, this probably is gonna torpedo our dreams of potentially winning the division. And depending on what the Canes do we're probably battling for our lives for second place and that home ice.

That line is out there to end regulation in order to give the guys who play 3v3 a rest ahead of OT. Maybe my only quibble is having Bastian out there, though I don’t know if that was just a late change that ended up not happening.

4 straight regulation losses. I don’t recognize this team right now. Where did it all go and how did it go? Tonight we didn’t look like the same team or even look like the same players as in the Carolina games or even against LA on New Year’s Day, much less the same team as before Xmas. I didn’t like us against Carolina or Los Angeles but today was an entirely different level of futility. Have we hit rock bottom or is there more still to come in Seattle?

This is frigging depressing. The bleak winter after New Years is hard enough without this. Please guys turn this around.

They will absolutely never ever ever start OT without Nico if he is dressed. Not a chance. Now Nico might be a FOGO, but you cannot start OT with Jack Hughes in the dot.

Nico has to start because of the faceoff

Sharks would've probably went Wennberg/Celebrini + a D. Could've easily tossed out Lazar in that situation like they did with McLeod when he was still on the roster. Regardless, the argument that Nico couldn't play the last shift in regulation to be saved for OT is stupid. You play for OT like that with players/lines and you end up with the result you did today.

Nico could've both finished regulation and started OT. He would've had enough of a breather.

Honestly, today's game should have been over way earlier.

We at least had a good period against Anaheim in the 1st. We probably could have been up 2-0 or 3-0 after the 1st against Anaheim. Not in this one. We were lucky to not be down 2-0 or 3-0.

We didn't have a single good period today. Outshooting this humpty trash pale team is no indication of how dominant we were. Especially not when this team routinely allows 40-something shots against the really good teams.

Yes, this team can absolutely, without any doubt, make a run. Not a single team in the east looks unbeatable. End of story.

anyway not changing the lines at all after this run of futility is puzzling, the easiest and lowest effort way of trying to find a spark when nothings working

Glad we are paying Tatar over a million bucks to play 9 mins a night. Change up the lines at this point.

Tatar-Hischier-Meier
Bratt-Hughes-Noesen
Palat-Haula-Cotter
Bastian-Mercer-Lazar

No god please no more Haula and Cotter together. I CANNOT TAKE IT. I try this for now.

Cotter-Jack-Bratt
Timo-Nico-Noesen
Palat-Haula-Mercer
Tatar-Lazar-Bastian

Love Tatar and still think he serves his purpose and plays his role supremely well but his scoring touch is COOKED. Cotter on the other hand at least still has use of his hands. Also if you're going to use Mercer at center then having him as the 4C and Haula as the 3C is insane. I also think at this point you might need to be trying Bratt down on the 3rd line. Issue is asking Jack to carry around 2 anchors might be too much and the Nico line is too good for me to want to split up.

Going by Hockeyviz’s first round matchup probabilities going into today the odds at winning the division we’re about 24% today’s results probably brings down to the 18-20% range.

I know Bastian and Lazar were good today but you just can't play them that late in the third if you're Keefe. His game management with lines is pretty dog shit and was one of the things Leafs fans were probably right about with him.

I definitely would have put a different line there that is much better at puck management and better on the boards, Some mix of Nico or palat OR someone fast to cover any neutral zone skateout (Bratt/jack)

I know they "planning" for OT but if you don't get there it don't matter.

For some reason Tatar has fallen out of favor and it even looked like he was gonna be scratched for Dowling from yesterday's practice lines.

He's had better production than quite a few of those guys while seeing even fewer minutes.

I'm at the point where I'm f***in so done with Haula. I'm definitely the third man (not sure who the second is lol) with @BostonDevil in the NWO to body slam and finish with the leg drop on Haula.

He looks about ready for the junkyard. I can't see him here next year, unless he has his best half a season since he's been here, which is unlikely at soon to be 34 years old.

Maybe a few market correction goals and points down the stretch save him, but he doesn't look like a third line anything right now, let alone next season.

The exact thing that happened is the worry with playing those guys late which is the lack of foot speed and SJ turning them and going the other way for a late chance. Again, a lot of bullshit happened on the way to the goal being scored but yeah lol
