The interesting thing about the Archer trade is despite the reputation...Glasnow has not exactly been good for the Rays. He's still been striking people out, he's still been wild (but less so), he's been allowing tons of fly balls, has mostly short innings, and remains the absolute number one worst in the league at holding runners on base.

I think it's easier to pull off a 'miracle' in baseball than it is hockey. Baseball is weird like that.

Yeah you get a hot pitcher and he wins a few games and maybe even a series on his own. I guess you can say the same for a goalie, but I don't know, it does seem easier in baseball. Or you get a couple hot pitchers and someone does something like Danny Murphy and you're in the WS.

(I don't think that Mets team was miraculous--they were really good. But what they did could be done by a lesser team.)

The Mystery of Flushing is that the Mets’ hitters fare far worse on balls in play at home than they do on the road. Not one year. Not the occasional year. Not by a little bit.

Every stinking year.

By a lot.

This year the Mets are hitting .305 when they put the ball in play on the road. That makes them the fifth best team in all of baseball in that regard. If they hit anywhere close to that at home, they might have been a wild card contender.

But, no. When they play at home, The Mystery of Flushing drags that average down 43 points to .262—making them the worst such hitting team in baseball, and the second worst in the past 27 years. The average MLB team this year is +5 at home.

In the playoffs, yes.

In the regular season, I think it's way harder. Larger sample of games and you have a rotation instead of one goalie.

They don't even need to go anywhere; it's already a miracle that the Rays have the record they do.

I'd say it has to do with some combo of plate approach and park effects perhaps? Only looked at this year but their batted ball profiles are pretty different road v home. They hit 3.5% more pop ups at home (BABIP killer) and their soft contact rate overall as a result is lower at home. Todd Fraizer is the king of In-field flies and low quality contact. Joey Bats as well. For the other years, not so sure.

Maybe swinging too hard for the fences out in LF @ citi

Kahnle and his 94 m.p.h fastball isnt fooling batters anymore.Gray and Kahnle in the same game = awesomeness

As was said in pregame and during the game-they pushed Severino and Tanaka both back to line them up for both Sox series.
1) The last thing we should be doing is lining Severino up against that lineup right now

2) The Red Sox games really don't matter any more than this one did. Oakland is our competition.

1-just repeating what was said,not that i agree with it.....2-see #1

Legit lol’d at the ESPN headline: “deGrom sets MLB record, still takes loss”

That sums up this season perfectly.

The Rangers being toxic briefly distracted me from how stupid and pointless this Sonny Gray start was.

Didn't even waste my time when I saw he was pitching. Watched the Cubs and then the US - Mexico game.

Sonny Gray start = auto loss.

Why is that ***** even on the roster?

The only pitcher to ever win the CYA with a losing record was a reliever. But you'd think a pitcher who does something not even Cy Young did would win his award.

The Yankees have their share of issues but the Rangers make me realize how much I appreciate this team.

Yankees are hitting bullets all over the place yet still can't buy a hit after 6.Unreal
