Mets starters first in WAR, FIP and BB/9 IP after the ASG. If they invest in an actual decent bat (like a Machado) and bullpen (Andrew Miller, DRob) maybe they have a shot at a playoff spot next season.

Jake will not get a win.

He gave up two hits and one run and got two hits himself and drove in a run.
I think I heard Gary mention that he set a record for 25 straight starts with 3 runs or fewer. It's almost hilarious how he's given up 2 runs in his last two starts and his only run support has come from himself driving in two runs.

If I’m the Mets I skip deGrom next Sunday so he doesn’t have to face Velasquez and the Phillies then you have him face the Marlins. He would also miss the Nats two series later despite the fact he would have to face Boston in between.

Of course I keep forgetting to ask myself if deGrom has a clause in his contract that gives him a bonus if he wins the Cy young. If he does I’m sure the Wilpons will be telling Mickey not to maneuver anything

Miller is the opposite of what they need. He's oft injured at this point.

One thing the Mets did with their trades last season and this season was bring in power arms that profile in the pen. Even the starter they got for Cabrera keeps being brought up as a reliever long term. We're beginning to see the fruits of those deals.

Drew Smith has pitched well since coming up. Pitched in some decent luck, but he should be around a 3ish ERA instead of the 2.5 he has.

Unless they are getting an elite bullpen arm in a trade, similar to the Brad Hand deal for the Indians, I'm letting my arms develop at the end of this season and going into camp and see where they are at. Herrera would be top choice and maybe Ottavino.

Past that, I wouldn't commit money to that position in free agency. Trade for the elite reliever and sign them longer term.

Mets have never done well signing relievers to multi-year deals. I remember Schoeneweis. And now they want a GM less-focused on advanced metrics? They'll go find some dude who had a 2.50 ERA and 5.00 xFIP and give him three years.

Considering the way the Wilpons flinch giving up a dime, I would think Jeff would say the exact opposite.
