Signing free agent RPs is a dangerous proposition. Most of the times it'll backfire on you. D-Rob will get paid and Miller is injured a lot. If you are going to pay someone might as well go after the best option in Kimbrel.

Miller is the opposite of what they need. He's oft injured at this point.

One thing the Mets did with their trades last season and this season was bring in power arms that profile in the pen. Even the starter they got for Cabrera keeps being brought up as a reliever long term. We're beginning to see the fruits of those deals.

Drew Smith has pitched well since coming up. Pitched in some decent luck, but he should be around a 3ish ERA instead of the 2.5 he has.

Unless they are getting an elite bullpen arm in a trade, similar to the Brad Hand deal for the Indians, I'm letting my arms develop at the end of this season and going into camp and see where they are at. Herrera would be top choice and maybe Ottavino.

Past that, I wouldn't commit money to that position in free agency. Trade for the elite reliever and sign them longer term.
Mets bullpen is ass though and I think they need at least one proven high-end reliever there. I would rather spend $ only than trade prime assets for a guy like Hand (who the Indians overpaid for).

Matt Chapman has 17 errors and is considered the best defensive player in baseball. Amazing how far we've come.

Felix won the CY in 2010 with only 13 wins so there's hope for DeGrom.

We lead the league in sac flies...except when we have bases loaded. So frustrating.

Yeah most likely Spencer but I’m hoping he’s one of these “Swing path but not really” guys.

I remember people getting all over Donaldson right before he got traded to Toronto because he made a billion errors that season.

You can’t make errors on balls you don’t get to.

Before the season, you could say the same for a team like the As. They had nobody in their bullpen. Remember that Blake Trienen was a throw in to a trade that sent multiple high end relievers to the Nationals. Some in season moves when they realized they were good and young arms come up and pitch well and now they have what appears as a solid pen.

It's a fickle position, especially outside of the top percent of relievers who are consistently good until they decline. Kimbrel is one of those guys. Something is keeping me from paying a guy with that mileage though. Could be another K-Rod situation (that signing wasn't bad, just not worth it). I like Herrera because he is under 30 right now and throws hard with nasty stuff. Beyond that, roll with what they have signed:
  • Hope Swarzak pitches well next season.
  • Gsellman has a full season in the pen under his belt and has been up and down (more up than down).
  • Lugo can stay in the pen, especially if they keep their top 4 starters (deGrom, Noah, Matz, and Wheeler) and Vargas can be the 5 cause he is getting paid.
  • Sign Herrera.
  • Audition other guys now and in the spring and see where they are come June/July.
They need hitters. A better lineup will heal a lot of wounds. If they were able to generate any run support for deGrom, they'd probably be hovering around .500, if not over.

It's like the old "Hank gives up more weak goals than anyone" argument when he was in his prime. Same was said of Prime Brodeur and Roy. They were touching pucks other goalies were beat clean on.

Just saw the highlight of Frazier crashing into the stands to catch a foul ball, not catching the ball, instead picking up a fan's rubber ball, and fooling the umpire for the out. Awesome.

LMAO its so awesome.

That's honestly some old timey classic baseball tomfoolery. The 1890s Orioles would love this shit.

Todd needs a huge mustache now.

Sanchez is absolutely killing us behind the plate.Severino has the control of a blind man tonight too.
