Well at least we have the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary "Once Upon a Time in Queens" on the '86 Mets that premiered last night to wax poetic about....lol
I was just going through the Mets draft picks in the years before 1986 and while they hit on Gooden and Straw its amazing how many top 5 picks they missed on yet still were good enough for a WS win and were good enough to win more.

Very true. The thing that spurred the Mets forward and helped make them what they were was Frank Cashen's trade prowess. I mean I don't think he made a bad trade ever while with the Mets.

He got Hernandez, Carter,Knight,HoJo, Heep,Teufel, Ojeda and Darling all thru trades. That's truly remarkable as usually teams win due by building from within.

Not those mid 80's Mets as other successful Met teams the rest of the decade were due to trade additions of other solid players like Kevin McReynolds and David Cone were brought in to the fold.

We need to clone Cashen and turn him into an NHL exec.

I do think Boone and Thames (and possibly Blake?) should be fired though. They had a graphic the other day that showed how the Yankees have went back and forth between long losing streaks and long winning streaks this season. That is a coaching issue.

Goes beyond Boone and his staff.

Cashman needs to be booted first and foremost.

Voit is a disaster at 1st.Why you decide to rest Rizzo this game is mind boggling

I would 100% keep Matt Blake. Cortes great, Taillon good year after a bad first month. I'm not going to give any good or bad on Cole and Kluber, they are vets, they are doing what they want. Monty having his best season. Bullpen positives of Lo, Peralta, Holmes, Rodriguez, King.

Negatives from the pen would be Nelson, Kriske and Heaney I guess, but it's not like Heaney were good coming here. Other two are probably just not MLB caliber. Chapman had a bad stretch, but has been really good since second week of July. Chad Green has been run into the ground.
