This was before all the other official reports, but this would be interesting since he has managed a lot of the guys on the team already. Could help with transitioning, especially since Collins has worn many hats when it comes to roles on a team. Don't think he'd overstep his boundaries.

Didn’t he say there was no chance Beltran would take the job?

The media circus of Girardi managing the Mets after leaving the Yanks had the potential to be awful for the Mets, IMHO. Can’t you just see the press continually asking him to second guess Boone? If Beltran signs, I think it’s great for you guys.

Strasburg or Cole? The Yankees really need to get one of them. Either of them leading a rotation with Paxton, Severino, German and Tanaka is drool worthy. Jettison Happ into the sun.

i think the rumor is that strasburg isn't even gonna talk to other teams...he is opting out so he can sign a bigger/longer contract with the nats

Not happy with this. It's money that could address other needs.

Since we are a budget team now, we have to make smarter financial decisions.

Yes, he could've gotten more money on the open market, but you shouldn't be paying 20mil to relievers unless it's an undisputed GOAT like Mariano. You shouldn't trade for them either - or you'll end up giving up guys like Torres and Kelenic.

Cashman is losing the plot.

It doesn't change anything for the next 2 seasons budgetwise. By that time the current cba will have expired.

Not a fan of extending Chapman either. Zach Britton would have been just fine as the closer.

I like it. I believe he can still be effective even with slightly diminishing velocity over the next three seasons. Literally just extended an extra year with that year being the only increase in AAV.

Britton-Chapman ain't broke, don't "fix it."

This money does not preclude us from signing an ace.

Why is that? Ownership has proven to have been cheap in recent years.

Bold predictions:

Stanton gets traded.

Yankees don't sign any of the big starters but trade for someone whose name hasn't come up in conversation much using Sanchez+other pieces.

I think this is too good to be true unfortunately. He is Ellsbury 2.0.
Is this referring to Stanton? Yeah, the Yankees are stuck with him unless we absorb a horrendous contract like the Hosmer.

He is going to play here for the duration of his contract, unless he gets home sick, opts out and signs with a Cali team.

Perhaps he gets tired of the booing. I have a feeling that he'll be hearing it often in the next few years. At least in those occasions that he's actually on the field.

I don't think Stanton is movable right now, unless they absorbed so much money in such a bad contract that it wouldn't be a great deal anyway.

However, if he hits 45 homers, 125 RBI's, and they still don't win then I could see him being movable. Watch we'll have all this talk and he'll have an A-Rod 2009 run.
