In the words of Uncle Phil: "when are we gonna stop doing this to each other?"
That’s part of the fun for many of us. We’re in the same town and we love to hate each other. Many of us have friends or siblings who we have sports rivalries with. Get that peace and love crap outta my sports and let’s move it into politics and the real world lol

And then there’s Olney and Bowden chiming in:

Discuss...

Frazier is not healthy. Ellsbury not healthy. Mckinney and Drury gone.

I dont want Judge to rush back because of the Division race. If you can get a good deal on one of the bats Bowden mentioned then do it. No interest in Maybin. Maybe Granderson because of his success in Yankee stadium. Thing is if you trade for Harper, Jones, Moustakas where do they go when Judge comes back? Does Hicks sit on the bench then? Is that ok?

There is no point in trading for someone to fill in three weeks. It will make basically no difference overall. Jose Martinez, for example, has been worth 1 WAR in 95 games. The amount of value he will provide in 20 games is negligible. If you can get them for basically nothing you might as well do it but if it's even a remotely decent prospect I wouldn't bother.

Why don't they just call up the great Tyler Austin and play him at DH in the meantime?

I see and agree with your point but Martinez isn't a rental.

WAR Schmwar, Martinez can rake.

The only issue would be what to do with him when Judge returns. He doesn't really have a position either but thats something you can worry about when Judge returns.

He'd almost be in a platoon situation I guess.

Really... reciting war? WAR includes defense and positional value, neither of which he provides, he's a valuable bat hitting .300 with 13 homers

The thing is Martinez has 4 years left after this so the Cardinals are probably looking for top prospects which makes no sense frmo Yankees PoV really as he doesn't fit longer term.

Yeah for a guy who is really a DH on a team that kind of needs to keep that spot open it doesn't make a ton of sense...

But I love his bat. I'd try to find a way to make it work.

I'd explore trading for him as a fill in/insurance for when Judge is down and then flipping him in the offseason.

Also the Yankees need to be very conservative with Judge. They should have enough offense to hold it together while he heals.

Get him back at 110% instead of getting him back at 80% with the possibility of things flaring up again.

Martinez would not take top prospects. He's been worth 2.6 WAR the last two years (~200 games), is already 30 years old, and has been losing some starts recently because he can't field. He's a good hitter though. He wouldn't even have a regular spot on the Yankees when everyone is healthy. He's likely be on the wrong side of a platoon with Bird. He's probably a roughly league average player overall which is useful but not something to give up a ton for.

Mets signed Austin Jackson, which would be another great move back 2011. Andy Martino says Wheeler and Asdrubel could be traded soon

I assume they would sign him because they'll be trading Bautista, and don't have any great options in AAA as a 4th OF. I think the only one on the 40-man is Kaczmarski. I mean I know Jackson is shit, but they still have to field a team. They're running out of bodies even before guys get moved.
