You can't trade draft picks in MLB (only compensation picks).

I appreciate the reminder.
However, the prop was not defeated, only requires modification.
Instead of draft picks, just say 'prospects acceptable to Yankees' or similarly acceptable wording.

Set aside a more focus analysis of 1:1 aspect of it.

What you are doing is winding up w/Severino retained plus getting Machado as a rental with inside track to extend. If he does, that is significant enough add, and if he walks, you still have Sev to hold on to.
In my book that is acceptable risk to upgrade for better shot at division, ALCS.

Also Gardner and Ellsbury are upgrades to Ana OF.

Moving Trout is a wince, but there is large upside to Ana the other way.
