I wonder if the Mets have regrets about this trade.
As good as Diaz has been, I don't think any MLB reliever is worth a prospect that is hitting like Kelenic tbh.Probably not tbh.
Kimbrel will get signed after the draft so the team doesn't have to give up a compensatory pick. He's also adamant on a 4 year deal afaik. As good as Diaz has been, I don't think any MLB reliever is worth a prospect that is hitting like Kelenic tbh.
Guys like Kimbrel are looking for jobs. He is probably the best reliever of this generation.
That contract looks better every dayso after his historic 0-fer streak. chris davis is hitting .343 since he finally got a hit

Mets need playoffs now and offense isn't their problem. 10 years from now they'll "lose" the trade probably but I don't see why the Mets care about that now.
You likely won't be able to pick up a prospect like Kelenic with a late compensatory pick. That seems like a HR pick.Kimbrel will get signed after the draft so the team doesn't have to give up a compensatory pick. He's also adamant on a 4 year deal afaik.

I'm not talking about the relative merits of Kelenic vs. Cano/Diaz. Regardless of where it falls you'll always "win" with Kelenic because right now he's a magic bean with no ceiling. You likely won't be able to pick up a prospect like Kelenic with a late compensatory pick. That seems like a HR pick.
I don't want to say it's a money issue either, because the Mets spend a lot of it. I can't put my finger on it, but I never liked the deal from day 1. I'm just totally against giving up assets for relievers I guess.
With Familia being ass this season, maybe they give Kimbrel the 4 yrs he's asking.I'm not talking about the relative merits of Kelenic vs. Cano/Diaz. Regardless of where it falls you'll always "win" with Kelenic because right now he's a magic bean with no ceiling.
But you asked if they regret it, and I don't think they care at all right now. Kelenic wasn't gonna help the 2019 Mets, that's as far as it goes.
3,000 strikeouts!!!
Idkk.. They could’ve played it safe and signed one of the closers without Diaz.. would’ve had Kelenic, Conforto, Alonso, McNeil, Rosario, Nimmo core for a long long time.Kimbrel will get signed after the draft so the team doesn't have to give up a compensatory pick.
