McNeil just rakes. He's a classic hitter in an age when everyone is trying to nuke the baseball, he just makes contact and gets his hits.

And he's not bad in LF either. Great player to build around for the next 3-4 years.

With the cash being thrown about to these guys its telling how not a single team was willing to concede the draft pick to get them earlier probably at a cheaper cost and guaranteeing you get the guy.

Young cheap players (and draft picks of course) are so much more valuable these days, and overpaying rather than losing a draft pick is now a thing in baseball even for the richest teams.

I wanted Keuchel but he is not make or break for me. He might not be ready for 2-3 more weeks. Were into July at that point. Had we signed him and had to wait we would be thinking well we shouldve just waited longer to focus on the trade market.

Now if Scherzer becomes available and we dont grab him i will lose my mind. No excuses then.

Beyond Scherzer my list includes:

Bumgarner
Boyd
Stroman

Not sure what other names are starting to surface

Keuchel chose $1.5 million more to be in ATL. Good, enjoy it. $1.5 million more and the Braves might be a wild card exit considering the holes they have in their pitching staff.

What happened the last two off seasons, and with shit like this during the year, the rift over the next CBA is going to be drastic.

The PA has a case for saying the Owners are not operating in good faith.

Braves have tons of pitching. They do need some bullpen help.

Get ready to lose your mind because I don't think Scherzer is going anywhere.

I said lose my mind if he is available and we dont end up with him.

Just to add to this, there is a very real chance Scherzer becomes available. The Nationals are a mess. Absolute mess. They jump out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st in SD last night with Corbin on the mound. They end up losing the game 5-4. They are B-A-D

He’s also beginning to show subtle signs of slowing this year. It’s inevitable with how much mileage he has on his arm that his expiration date is quickly approaching in the next 2-3 seasons. Much like it did with guys like Randy Johnson and Halladay it’ll probably happen suddenly where he just wakes up one day and it’s gone.

That is something you have to analyze and determine if he becomes available.

The Yankees window is definitely right now. It opened starting last year 2018 through I would say minimum 2022 given the youth of their roster.

Scherzer is only signed for 2 more years after this one. If you think he will not fall off a cliff the next two seasons then go all in. Now you also have to take into account that at a minimum the Yankees have Britton and Ottavino over the next two years. They will probably re-sign Betances. They will likely extend Green and will look to keep Kahnle around. The question mark is Chapman. Regardless, the point is the bullpen is still going to be very deep and with that in mind you will be able to preserve Scherzer’s arm imo. As long as he can maintain the ability to go out there and throw 7-8 innings when needed then that is gold.

Also Scherzer’s numbers are still very much in line with much of his career. He is at a 3.06 ERA right now. He had a 2.96 ERA in 2016 when he went 20-7. His strikeout numbers are on par with his last few seasons in fact as it stands right now his K/9 are at the highest clip its been in his career. Obviously that will change, but he is still pitching very effectively.

His FIP and xFIP are career lows.

I'd argue that he's pitching better than ever.

Fully expect Cashman to pursue Bumgarner, Scherzer, etc. for a deal. They need another top end pitcher for the playoff run this year.
