Reds are trying to extend Gray before the trade. If they can. Would that increase the return? I'm assuming they have two deal in place, one with an extended Gray and one without.
I imagine the trade is done as advertised if Gray says yes to extension but if he says no then I'm guessing deal falls through.Reds are trying to extend Gray before the trade. If they can. In Fangraphs valuation tool, Shed is 71st while Alonso is 67th.I don't know about that comp. Like MLB Pipeline for instance had Alonso #58 and Long nowhere to be found. long seems to be a fine prospect but I don't think he's quite to the level of Alonso. And Alonso isn't even a blue chip guy or anything. There's also the fact that Alonso is either the 1 or 2 prospect in a weak system, so the Mets moving him would be much more notable than the Reds moving Long, who I have seen anywhere from 5-10, from their deep, top-third system.
Comparable according to that list, not comparable to others. You yourself initially said he was a fringe-100 prospect, no? I haven't seen any lists where Alonso was on the fringes. He's generally right in the middle. In Fangraphs valuation tool, Shed is 71st while Alonso is 67th.
An Update to Prospect Valuation
I understand that move may be a bit steeper for the Mets since they don't have a deep farm system. But that is what would be comparable value.

But whatever. If you think they're in the same tier then so be it. I don't think the value is quite comparable but it's totally subjective.
Days Since Gray Has Almost Been Traded:Oh boy, here we go again.
Interesting. Who needs OF prospects? Cleveland and San Fran do

Stowers doesn’t have to go on the 40-man roster; Long would have.I mean. The Indians could use it, but from what I've read Long>Stowers.
Stowers is ranked 10th in the Mariners systems.
