Oh boy.

Couple days ago I stumbled on Mets boards and the first topic was 'Mets should trade Harvey'.

What boards are these? I'm not a fan of their hockey coverage, but the sbnation baseball blogs tend to have pretty intelligent conversations. I don't know much about Pinstriped Bible, but Amazin' Avenue is probably the best Mets fan site on the web.

There's also a thread comparing Flores to Miggy and moving Wright to shortstop.

Mets rotation is gonna be sick. harvey is already a beast, wheeler is getting better the more experience he gets, syndergaard is only 20 and is 6-0 with 1.75 ERA in AA. Gee and Niese are only 26/27 years old. Flores has a very high ceiling as an offensive threat, Travis D'arnaud is coming the next week or so. All we need is a couple decent free agents and its gonna be fun

Montero had another fabulous outing tonight too.

Oh, you meant the forums on mlb.com. Yeah I'd expect those ones to be a cesspool. I forgot they even existed.

I really like montero too. However i feel he might be the one traded for a bat. I dont want to lose him but we obviously cant trade wheeler or syndergaard. Also Mejia has bounced back, People forget that he was once a bigtime prospect until injuries hurt his growth. he is only 23

The board I'm talking about is the yesnetwork.com boards. Wow, talk about insane stuff.. Overbay is better than Teixiera, Mo and Jeter were done 7 years ago, on and on it goes.. I used to be a regular poster there, but me and a bunch of others went and created another board because they just put down players, and another poster, and there was really no baseball discussion going on, I see nothing has changed there either.

These baseball prospects are a dime a dozen.

Look at what the Marlins acquired for Cabrera. Dontrelle Willis was part of the deal. Willis didn't do much for the Tigers. He was on the down slope with the Marlins.

The Marlins, looking to shed payroll, picked up the 20-year-old Maybin, universally regarded as one of the five best prospects in baseball, and the 22-year-old Miller, a left-handed pitcher who was considered the best player in the 2006 draft. Also included were catcher Mike Rabelo, reliever Eulogio de la Cruz and starters Dallas Trahern and Blake Badenhop.

Maybin and Miller have done nothing. Maybin isn't a bad player for the Padres but he never fulfilled his potential.

Cabrera was 24 at the time of the trade in 2007. He has had some issues with alcohol and sought treatment.

Deja vu... Rivera blows another save (his 3rd straight), and Gardner is the walk off hero again (2nd straight)

Wilmer Flores has 1 HR and 9 RBI in his first 6 MLB games. We all knew this kid could hit but he has been clutch so far. Gotta find a spot for him next year

If they could force Murphy into 2B then they can AT LEAST try to get Flores in there at SS. The kid has a gun for an arm.

Let's give the kid more than a week before we start shoving Murph out the door. One of the few bright spots in the black abyss that was the Mets season pre-All-Star break.
First of all i never said they should trade murphy. I said IF the mets chose to

No. He's just an above averse payer who's paying well in a sea of injured/underperforming/old/cheating vets/former stars.

He's a very valuable player, he gets on base at a good clip, he scores a ton of runs, steals bases, and plays tremendous defense. Obviously not a superstar, but he's a very valuable player.

I like Murph, but he's overrated. He's got an .OBP of .309 and his power isn't so good that it makes up for getting on base at such a low clip. A 4.4% walk rate is just not going to cut it. He's also not the world's greatest fielder. If Flores can handle second base defensively (a huge if), then you have to give him that spot. His bat could give them so much more than Murphy's. Plus, someone might give up something of legitimate value for Murphy in a deal.

I need to see more out of both Mejia and Montero before picking between them like that. I don't think this is the offseason to be trading off our excess pitching anyway. We should focus on trying to land Ellsbury and Choo. They should be willing to spend what it takes to land both of them because there's nothing coming out of the system in the outfield anytime soon.

Holy ****, some Yankee fans actually want to bring Pettitte back

If I'm the Yankees, I try to bring back Kuroda, and sign Garza.

Sabathia, Kuroda, Garza, Nova, Pineda/Phelps/whoever does the best.

Conte said he spent more than two hours with the officials — Dan Mullin and Eduardo Dominguez Jr. — on Wednesday at his lawyer’s office in San Francisco.
He described how Rodriguez showed up uninvited on his doorstep in May 2012 with admitted BALCO steroid casualty Bill Romanowski, the former NFL linebacker, to discuss legal products that could give Rodriguez an edge.
Conte said Rodriguez had been trying to set up a sitdown through Romanowski for two months before they finally met, the day before the Yankees kicked off a three-game series with the Oakland A’s.

This guy seriously has some demons and problems to deal with.. Getting him off the field would be the best thing for his life IMO

A-Rod is a sociopath. He lacks any sense of self-awareness. He lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. Listen to him talk it's almost like he's playing a character.

I've been trying to think of the last time that the Mets' future looked as promising as it does right now:

Harvey being Harvey
Wheeler having a solid rookie year
Flores off to a strong MLB start
Mejia showing that he has pretty big upside
Montero pitching well in AAA
Syndergaard absolutely dominant in AA(youngest pitcher in AA as well)
d'Arnaud hitting well in AAA and about to make his debut

Being a Met fan doesn't suck as much as it did a few months ago.

Juan Lagares.

Still need a bat or two. Ike has been better but still not convinced he can be a regular. Murphy has been great but still inconsistent throughout his career. I have no idea why they didn't trade Byrd when his stock was high.

Yeah forgot about Juan. He's been impressive. Definitely need another bat: either a SS or RF/LF, or both. Not sure what the plan is with Byrd. I'm guessing they want to bring him back for another year, otherwise he would have been dealt(either that or Sandy foolishly thought this team could go on a legendary run and make the playoffs...). Murphy is inconsistent, but we can't afford to lose him. I'd rather try to move Flores over to 1st, have him work with Keith or something and maybe use Ike in a platoon role. See how it goes. My expecations for Ike at this point are pretty non-existent, unfortunately.

I'm sure this isn't a popular opinion, but if Syndergaard is the real deal I'd call up Texas about a Wheeler for Profar swap. Sign Choo(unlikely, but you never know) in the offseason and the team could actually be somewhat competitive next season. A combo of Wright, Murph, Wilmer/Ike, d'Arnaud, Profar, Choo, Lagares could be end up making a pretty solid lineup.

It doesn't make sense to get rid of guys for bad C prospects who'll never make it to the majors.

Sandy stuck to his guns and wasn't able to get what he wanted. Instead of caving and accepting a bunch of scrubs he just let it be. Maintaining a reputation as a tough negotiator is more important than some bad prospect.
