Speculation: Mittlestadt on his way out from Colorado?

Mitts has been awful for Colorado lately, but the source is Dater. Guy’s a moron and his “scoop”s are baseless.

Is it possible he’s being shopped, yes. However it would take more than a Dater tweet for me to believe that.

Literally fell off a cliff. Something isn’t right with him. You don’t fall like he has without either some extreme mental/confidence issue, or an injury. Mittlestadt has always had issues playing under 100% too.

Heard over Xmas they were already ready to cash in their chips on him. He’s treading water down the depth chart now, with nothing coming to fix him.

What’s funny is, they probably should’ve just given JT Compher the $5 million and called it a day. At least if he wasn’t producing on the scoresheet, he contributes in other areas. Now they’re paying Mittlestadt more for nothing in return.

One other thing to keep in mind. They don’t have much to trade away this deadline. He’s likely what they’ll try to move in that regard. Problem is, teams are gonna want some answers before paying him $5m plus. Maybe someone who was “in on him” last year, has a deal they can make where the money isn’t such a question mark. We’ll see but fully expect he gets moved. It’s the return that’s just too hard to speculate on.

They have plenty to trade, especially for what needs they have.

Middlestadt replaces Johansen for one playoff, half a season and he's on the block? What's the play for Colorado, more speed?

Does he just move down a line, who's the Avs normal 3rd line center? Might be a way to add some depth, that O'Connor kid looks to be a bit of a sparkplug moving up the lineup.

I could see Granlund being a fit for Colorado at the deadline.
Granlund is slower than Mittelstadt.

Hopefully it was just a slump. He was very good in the playoffs and to start the season. It’s not like we haven’t seen him play well in Denver. Outside of some blockbuster deal for a star center - which seems complicated by Rantanen’s contract situation…I think the best option has always been to let CM work through this.

He looks injured to me. He's never been a speedster but to start the season, he looked like he put the work in over the summer to get a bit faster and he was fantastic to start the year.

He had 16 points in his first 15 games played to start the season - that was no accident - and then ??? something happened and he just hasn't been the same since. A few of us Avs fans saw him take a couple of big hits in mid-november and speculated that his struggles could be a result of that though he hasn't missed any games due to injury.
Mittelstadt is a great example of people not knowing how sustainable high on-ice shooting percentage is, especially for players who don't score that much.

Not only was he lucky, but his luck had slimmer margins for success.

We’re gonna find out but don’t be surprised if the Avs have to overpay on any high-end assets this deadline, as we’re going to see more prospects being traded (this year) because so many contenders lack 2025 picks. So we’re gonna find out how much other teams like, or dislike anyone’s prospects. You’ll see teams choose prospects that were 3rd and 4th round picks over recent 1sts or 2nds.

On another subject regarding Colorado and some bargain shopping?? If the cap for next year is announced prior to the deadline as the NHLPA, agents (and teams) are pushing to happen, don’t be surprised to find JT Compher back in Colorado, with what now becomes a very manageable cap hit, whether Detroit retains or not.

It won’t just be Colorado looking at some of those $5 million tweeners they couldn’t keep either.
