Speculation: Mittlestadt on his way out from Colorado?

He has to be playing injured right? No idea how someone can just forget how to play hockey all the sudden. He was points per game the first couple months of the season then just fell off a cliff.

He was absolute beast in the playoffs last year and to start the year.

Someone can school me if I'm wrong but I always though Mittlestadt was a good quality 3C and a stretch as a 2C. To be able to bring him in was solid because good young centers are hard to find but is his overall performance fairly representative of who he is as a player? I'm not sure it's the fault of Mittlestadt being iffy at 2C when he was already iffy at 2C to begin with.
Hes a decent center. I dont watch colorado to know who he us pl AZ young with on his lines

I think He can be a 2C but this year Colorado struggle with injury and He needs to adjust a lot of time due to all players plays with him @ wings.
Colorado can use him to get an upgrade @ C position or get a top 4 D .
Whi gas he p li aying with ? An issue with Mitts is hes s good player just he doesny lift his line and hates. H ef needd vnn tu o hr playing with frcrny players.

His much of his production is from PP

i just think the avs system is a poor fit for him. he would do better on a team like vancouver that plays more of a possession type game vs the avs that are more of a quick transition and quick strike team.

Maybe Mitts has a hand injury. I hope he recovers from it. I hope you do as well.

I'm frankly tired of the injury excuse to describe a players poor performance, and this is not exclusive to Mittelstadt or the Avalanche.

If it's the playoffs, you probably play injured as well. During the regular season, there is no excuse. If you are in the lineup, you are healthy, and you are held to those standards. If you are not fully healthy, you should not be playing. End of story.

"He must be injured, he looks off". Is he in the lineup? Yes? Ok good, he's healthy then, and he just f***ing sucks. There are no injured players in the lineup during the regular season.

I’ll have to let ‘em know. Also possible he’s hampered but they still consider him better than a call-up, but got it- you’re 100% healthy every night, totally consistent, or you’re outta the lineup. Makes sense.

Anywho, I’m surprised he’s struggling. Thought he’d Reinhart it to a lesser degree, hope he can turn it around there or find a better fit.

And to those saying you never seen it, 3C, etc… watch better. Dude is one of those subtle cerebral players (speaking of Reinhart), don’t think he has a single highlight-reel play but usually just makes the right little reads.

Mittlestadt for Cozens, who says no? Except for the Sabres’ locker room because that’s just weird.

This is a situation where your pro scouting and coaching philosophy weren’t on the same page. Never should have traded for him when he isn’t a guy who fits the team build.

My guess is the Leafs are in on him. We desperately need center help and if him moving teams unlocks 50 good games out of him, we'll take it and hopefully he brings it in the playoffs

Mittelstadt played well in the playoffs and to begin the season. It's not like his tenure in Denver has been a total disaster from the getgo.

Literally fell off a cliff. Something isn’t right with him. You don’t fall like he has without either some extreme mental/confidence issue, or an injury. Mittlestadt has always had issues playing under 100% too.

Heard over Xmas they were already ready to cash in their chips on him. He’s treading water down the depth chart now, with nothing coming to fix him.

What’s funny is, they probably should’ve just given JT Compher the $5 million and called it a day. At least if he wasn’t producing on the scoresheet, he contributes in other areas. Now they’re paying Mittlestadt more for nothing in return.

One other thing to keep in mind. They don’t have much to trade away this deadline. He’s likely what they’ll try to move in that regard. Problem is, teams are gonna want some answers before paying him $5m plus. Maybe someone who was “in on him” last year, has a deal they can make where the money isn’t such a question mark. We’ll see but fully expect he gets moved. It’s the return that’s just too hard to speculate on.
