Yeah but you need your legs and presumably your knees to operate the legs in order to skate.

And this doesn't sound too encouraging (stolen from guy who posted in Ellerby thread):

add this:

Just chatted w/Dean Lombardi. Dean Lombardi: "Right now we have to operate on the premise Willie and Greener are done for the year."

‏@reallisa
Note the word 'premise'..Asked him about Mitchell. DL: "Nothing has changed either way."

lisa dillman
‏@reallisa
DL "If he comes back it's a tremendous bonus. If not, we can't continue to rely on that. We've got to get in that mindset."

More DL: "So that when he (Mitchell) comes back it's almost like a total bonus vs. sitting and waiting and hoping. It does us no good."

Once again, note the word premise. Teams clearly have to prepare for multiple scenarios. Makes more sense than waiting and hoping.

Ughh.. he isn't suffering from a concussion, if he was going through post-concussion symptoms we wouldn't be having this conversation.

True but if your knee is giving you confidence problems it increases the possibility of other injuries, including those to the head.

Ughh..

That's definately a big thing not to be underestimated depending on what surgery he had done. I've had knee surgery and i lost total confidence in mine even after it was fixed. These guys are tough as nails and would be used to injuries but even so Mitchell gets the benefit of the doubt in my book, he's a veteran warrior.

I don't want Mitchell back unless he is sure himself, that he is 100%.

It does the team no good, if Mitchell is not going to play his game.

I still think Kopitar is not 100%, and so far Kopitar has looked pretty bad.

Mitchell does not strike me as the type of person that would choose to sit around for no reason. If he says he's not ready to play, I believe him.

I hope this is more or less being conveyed in the lockerroom. They should be playing like Greene and Mitchell are done for the season.

I don' think that anyone really believes that he's screwing off, or that he's less of a man, or whatever. It's just confusing and the secrecy is dumb.

That is what the real headscratcher is for me with some of you guys. Since when have NHL teams been forthcoming with injury information? This just seems like such a non-issue to me. If the guy isn't ready to play, he isn't ready to play. What purpose does it serve the fans to know exactly what the hold up is? If you are a coach or in management, what good does it do to give this information out freely?

I prefer the secrecy. Maybe it's not his knee. I'd rather not have opponents look for an area to target.

I think the complaint is in how long will he be out. I don't need to know what the problem is really, but I'd like to know if he's going to be gone for one game or one week, or one month or the year. There's no timeframe given at all, which is what's weird since they haven't had any problem giving a timeframe for every other injury. It's also not a new practice either, since they gave a rough timeframe on Greene.

Because just like every other injury in the history of ever, by the time the guy actually comes back to the lineup, the nature of the injury is public. All this secrecy while the guy is out is pointless. It does nothing but aggravate fans.

Actually, he wasn't.

I bet if you took a vote of all the fans close to the team they will tell you that he was as important as anyone on the roster. Look at our record with and without WM.

DD was important as well but I bet he will tell you that having Mitchell around is crucial.

Not me. I'll be happy to see him when he's ready.

It honestly doesn't bug me.. he will come back when he comes back. I don't see why worry about it. :dunno:

Well, I don't 'worry' about anything pertaining to the team, as it is really just all about entertainment if you boil it right down.

That said, as a fan, I do want to know if a guy will be out a week or 3-4 months. It's part of the fun of playing armchair GM, which we all do to a degree. If I knew Willie was only out until Tuesday, I'd say suck it up and play. If I knew Willie was done until 2014, I'd be discussing trade options.

The length of the injury creates a list of scenarios to discuss, a list that gets longer depending on the length of the injury.

Safe to assume another two weeks at least.

Willie is not on the trip correct ? Also Sutter doesn't insert anyone in the lineup unless they have been skating.

So Willie is going to be a few more weeks, probably more.

Obviously the right people know what's going on with Mitchell. If it's serious, Dean will do something about it. I don't get the appeal of the armchair GM. So, I don't really understand. If I had to guess, he won't be back anytime soon.

I would much rather him wait till Tuesday if that was ever the case. You can't just tell a player to "suck it up and play". That's not the right attitude, in my mind. (Especially for a guy important as Willie)

Doughty was in no way the best defenseman on the Kings during the regular season.

Well, I guess derailing is OK if moderators are contributing to it.

Mitchell was better than Doughty in which way, precisely?

Doughty faced tougher competition, yet drove the play in a more positive way than Mitchell did. Doughty also started shifts in his own zone more often than Mitchell did. It's close, but Doughty was clearly better last regular season.

In the playoffs, Doughty was easily the best defenseman on the team and in the league.

It isn't aggravating me. I still don't see what it would change if you knew the exact day he would be back. DL said he is planning as if he is out for the season. So now you know...

And for the record, he isn't back in the line up. He isn't even listed on the Kings website right now. He was "medically cleared" whatever that means. Clearly he isn't healthy enough to play or he would be playing.

Hopefully Ellerby will pan out and take off some of the sting. Better now then playoff time. Would be a nice trade deadline pickup to grab Greene and Mitchell for free, that would be a boost. We have so many redundant offensive players like Lewis-Fraser, King-Penner, plus Richie that we can always trade for another bottom pairing vet. As much as our defence is a concern we need more help up front as Kopitar has to still be hurting, Richards and Brown are in week 2 of training camp, Stoll is Stool, Penner is inhabiting Fido's house, and Williams and Gagne are trying to fill positions above their pay grade.
