Mitchell

He can't get his conditioning if he takes himself or refuses to step on a sheet of ice 2.5 weeks after he was cleared to not only skate, but play. Whatsmore, Hellene Elliot said on XM radio that he looked remarkably out of shape. All of that coupled with him injuring himself in a non training, recreation injury that in most professional conracts is prohibited (per Elliot) makes me a little uneasy about all of this. In this case, he is not subject to his contract and is allowed to do whatever he wanted since the owners locked the players out.

Terry Murray is obviously upset about the situation since he refuses to even say Mitchell's name to reporters and instead says "I don't know this player. I only comment on people on the roster" (again per Elliot). Needless to say, it's perfectly ok to be dissapointed in the player in this case, even if we don't know all of the facts.

Terry Murray-:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Medically cleared to play does not mean ready to play. If he's ready to go on the ice and play badly I don't know what that accomplishes, I'd rather see him sit.

Medically cleared for contact is for practice. Medically cleared to play is cleared to play games. It is just precisely that.

Scuderi needs to get this dude on the phone and explain to him what 'cleared to play' means.

If you heard that outside of a message board than it was a reporter speculating. Player or team has not commented on the issue and refuses to hint at an update.

I'm pretty sure it was Willie Mitchell himself that talked about the knee swelling up after attempting to skate during a Kings pre-game segment on Fox Sports West with Patrick O'Neal.

His agent, Mike Liut, said the same thing last week as well.

The new Kings blogger just was on HNIC with Kelly Hrudey and he said that "player and team are not commenting on any possible complications or setbacks".

You need to take it easy there bud, because Willie WAS our best defenseman last year. I'd rather have him take it easy and not rush himself, knee injuries are serious business. I do not want him to rush himself only to get hurt again right before the playoffs, that would be STUPID. Quit acting like a hardass.

Look the guy is 36 with a history of head injuries. If he's not 100 percent then I don't want him out there. I think the guy has another 2 or 3 seasons left in him if he's smart about it.

Do you folks really think he's just being a wuss about it?

The only thing that really makes this whole thing controversial is the lack of explanation.

Settle down, turbo.

That about sums it up.....whether he's cleared to play, having a setback, swelling, whatever....I don't care. It would just be nice to have an update and a possible ETA of his return to play.

This sums up my thoughts on the matter. I don't think he's a wuss. The Sutter comments and the hush, hush stuff have my mind going everywhere. I wonder if he's commited to play after such a long break and winning last year. Maybe they are close to shutting him down with a major setback and the news could hurt the Kings trade negotiations.

I'm good, but you need to find a sense of humor. Relax, it's only an Internet message board.

I need a sense of humor because you said that Scuds "needs to get this dude on the phone and explain to him what 'cleared to play' means." despite a knee injury, which are usually amongst the most serious injuries you can have?

You're right, the actual thought of Scuderi calling Mitchell and bragging about the gigantic size of his brass balls would not be funny at all. What would be even less funny is if they used FaceTime so Scuds could show off his monster size shiner over his sealed shut eye and then discuss how he will be in the lineup tonight.

Scuderi is so impressive he skates with his eyelids.

Ughh.. he isn't suffering from a concussion, if he was going through post-concussion symptoms we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Willie Mitchell gets the benefit of the doubt from me.

If he says he's not ready, then he's not ready.

If it's starting to look like he's gonna be out longer than previously projected, they're gonna have to look into shoring up the defense.

Willie is a warrior, and he deserves all the time off he is taking, He is hurt, he is not some ***** ***** who won't play for no reason.

This guy was maybe your best d-man in the playoffs last year also. give him time

Yeah but you need your legs and presumably your knees to operate the legs in order to skate.

And this doesn't sound too encouraging (stolen from guy who posted in Ellerby thread):

@reallisa Just chatted w/Dean Lombardi. Dean Lombardi: "Right now we have to operate on the premise Willie and Greener are done for the year."

lisa dillman ‏@reallisa
DL "If he comes back it's a tremendous bonus. If not, we can't continue to rely on that. We've got to get in that mindset."
