Injured players can be traded. Justin Williams had a arm injury when traded to LA, McCauly, Bure, Cloutier, Fraser were all injured When traded for.

Brent Sopel was traded to the Kings from the Islanders and he had a broken kneecap. I remember he hobbled out to the last home game of the season for the jersey giveaway ceremony while on crutches.

if he retires he counts agaisnt the cap? if he stays but the kings place him in LITR for the whole year he doesn't? did i get this right?

Not exactly but yes for most purposes. We are able to get relief up to his salary for a replacement player. So we can go over the cap because his salary still counts.

What? Did you pull those numbers out of your....

Salary-

Amart- 737k
Ellerby- 700k

http://www.capgeek.com/kings/

All I am saying is that Ellerby is young and has room to grow, and same could be said for Amart, although Amart has more value given his experience in the playoffs and winning a Cup.

Oops, you're right. I was looking at his entry-level contract. Capgeek's layout is a bit confusing in that it doesn't show the current contract at the top.

Yes he would. Though you are allowed an exemption to exceed the cap by that amount.

I think that exemption can only apply if he's hurt. If he retires it counts against the cap. It's why Pronger is 'hurt' when he's basically retired. Just not officially retired so Philly can keep him on LTIR.

It does, however the question didn't ask or imply retirement; that was the next one..

Sopel played 11 games for the Kings that season. Your argument doesn't compute.

He did have some knee problems at the time of his acquisition.

Parrish, a U.S. Olympian, scored his 24th of the season on Tuesday in New York's shootout victory over New Jersey. Sopel was scratched because the team said he had a bruised knee.

The Kings said Sopel's knee will keep him out of action for 7-to-10 days, depending on his progress.

The actions of Dean in free agency in July will be very telling about Willie's status for next year, if they bring back both Regehr and Scuds, I have to think things aren't going well.

I hope they toll his contract if possible so we have 2 more years of him.

Most likely you're correct and IF Mitchell returns to active duty then Lombardi only retains the CHEAPER OPTION between Regehr / Scuderi, so as to have more flexibility with Voynov's contract and finding a 2nd line LW, unless that will be Toffoli ? Potentially however they could do a sign and trade so they don't let either just walk for free as a UFA, or they sign 'em both as a safety net even though Mitchell MIGHT come back, will he be 100% and can he go a full season ?

Stay @ Home/PK type D-men options = W. Mitchell, R. Scuderi, M. Greene, R. Regehr, K. Ellerby
Mobil Puck Moving / PP type D-men options = D. Doughty, S. Voynov, A. Martinez, J. Muzzin

IF nothing else Dean has LOTS of Options on the Back End going into next Season , that's NINE NHL caliber D-men none of whom would be waiver exempt.

Yeah THAT'S NOT happening

Lombardi has had his miscues, but cripes, look at that blue line. And except for 2LW, his top three forward lines are in good shape too, with options on the fourth. When does he start getting included in GM of the year discussions?

Sure, a 39-year-old, hobbling Mitchell is gonna be AWESOME! :sarcasm:

Chelios played 'til he was 46 ... and he was still effective into his EARLY 40's ;)
Nicklas Lidström played 'til he was 41 ... and he was still very effective as a 39 yr old :)

IF Mitchell can fully recover I can see him playing another year or two past this current contract.

I think he has to sign them both because he can't afford not to.

Those guys are exceptions to the rule. Not many players make it to their 40s so these guys being good as 40+ stand out. Usually when guys hit a certain age they fall off the cliff pretty hard.

Remember, once upon a time, Justin Williams was labeled injury prone and people questioned whether or not he should even continue to play.

There are differences, obviously, especially because Williams was younger, but the point still stands. Players come back from injury and remain effective.
