You can't buy out or trade an injured player.

you most certainly can trade an injured player... As well, since Mitchell is a non roster player, injured outside of a CBA, there would be an argument for some other options if absolutely required...

Maybe if the injured player granted permission, but to the best of my knowledge you can't trade a player on IR.

Wow! I like these D pairing. We gonna be a b!tch to play against. I wish Scud can plays a little more physical.

I think that with Regehr and Greene back, Scuderi is going to play a lot less minutes. That is a VERY good thing. Scuderi won't be as tired or worn down throughout the game. Scuderi leads the league in SH TOI. That takes a toll on the body!

I think Regehr and Scuderi will stay, and Mitchell will be bought out or traded. Hope he's okay, of course. But DL's interview yesterday sure made it sound like they received unexpectedly bad news about his knee.

Either AMart or Ellerby is traded and the other is 7th dman. Muzzin will pair with Greene.

Scuderi - Doughty
Regehr - Voynov
Muzzin - Greene

Switch Muzzin and Regehr.

Ellerby isn't going anywhere, he's only 24 and is cheap.

Not so easy, we need to make 3.5 million in cap space room for him. DL wants his answer this summer so we can have a plan going into next year. I think he said he will have more news later this week on his knee so we'll see. In any event I think we proceed as if Willie is not back. Now in case he is done, how do we free ourselves of that cap space... LTIR?, trade?.. can we?, Buyout(I thnk we can't)? I think this is one of DL's challenges this summer. He needs to know what he has to work with.

All I know is one thing, if we re-sign Robyn Regehr, it better not be for anything more than 3M per

3Million for RR? He ain't relocating his family unless it is a multi-year deal and it will be for more than 3, but can we see him play first?

Yes you can, Marco Sturm was traded to the Kings while on IR.

http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nhl/news/story?id=5909790

While the article says that Sturm won't be ready for a week or so, it also says he had to pass a physical in order to be traded.
"Usually, when you say a physical, it's a formality. But this one is real," Kings general manager Dean Lombardi said of the final step before the deal is approved. "It's why there's an extended time period on this one. There's a significant hurdle here. You've got to look at everything, like an MRI and a strength test, and everything else."

If he doesn't pass that physical, he's not getting traded.

Sturm was on IR all season (so from October onward) until the trade was announced. The trade was done on December 12th, and Sturm was first in the line up for the Kings on December 21st.

What? Did you pull those numbers out of your....

Salary-

Amart- 737k
Ellerby- 700k

http://www.capgeek.com/kings/

All I am saying is that Ellerby is young and has room to grow, and same could be said for Amart, although Amart has more value given his experience in the playoffs and winning a Cup.

I actually disagree that Amart has more value. I think Ellerby being a former 1st round pick, bigger and plays more of the physical game will return more assets to the kings than Amart would.

I think AMart could by traded for more than a 5th, which is what Ellerby was traded for.

Injured players can be traded. Justin Williams had a arm injury when traded to LA, McCauly, Bure, Cloutier, Fraser were all injured When traded for.

AMart>>Ellerbe

AMart played very well last year during the Cup run. He has been slow since returning from injury but I definitely wouldn't give up on him over a first round bust like Ellerbe

Martinez is significantly better than Ellerby, but of late, Martinez has been without a doubt the worst defenseman on the roster. He's been out of position quite a bit and just hasn't looked very good for most of the season.

Hopefully it's just an off year and he can brush it off and bounce back. We know he's better than this and he deserves to sit this one out. Maybe this will get him to snap out of it and have him get his **** together.

If Ellerby played with more of an edge I'd pick him over Martinez, he's gotta use his size more...

Williams was playing within two weeks of the trade, and had to gain medical clearance for the trade: http://articles.latimes.com/2009/mar/06/sports/sp-elliott-kings-stars6

"He was greeted at Staples Center by team doctors and an X-ray machine, and he's scheduled to see a hand specialist today."

MacCauley and Bure were UFA signings, so totally different, Fraser wasn't actually on IR when the trade happened, and wasn't found to be hurt until after the deal, which is what caused the problem. Cloutier wasn't on the IR at the time of the trade either and played in the Kings first game of the season following the trade. His hip didn't start causing him issues again until a few games into that season.

According the CBA (well the last and previous versions) there's no restrictions, nor has there ever been, regarding trading players on LTIR...
