I Personally have no problems with Marner, He's just overpaid. Just like Matthews, just like JT and just like Willy will be. The Colorado game has left a real bad taste in my mouth. We're a top heavy team with overpaid stars that can't get the job done. Not sure how we're supposed to win anything with our current roster construction. Not when the stars aren't able to rise to the occasion.

Matthews is hardly overpaid. He is pretty fairly compensated for being the best Goal scorer in the league. If you consider 250k or 500k an overpay, not sure. I am ok with his contract. Matthews and Rielly have good contracts.

This thread is one of the weirdest things on the internet right now. You have people ready to splooge their pants over a dumb quote lol. Now they have more ammo. I think this is exactly what Marner means, everything these guys say is over analyzed. You have fans and media who want the players to feel a certain way. They are never going to feel how you want them to feel. They make too much money, they know they are good players. That’s never been in any of their personalities.

People love this team, some like myself have been living and dying with them for over 50 years. When they're having as crappy season as they are now, and that comes on the heels of all these years of playoff failures and Marner says "we know we're doing the right things", that demonstrates a complete disconnect from reality so it's completely understandable that some people might want to grab his scrawny little neck through the TV screen and yell at him "no, you f***ing idiot, you're not doing the right things, if you were you wouldn't be losing all the time".

Tied for 16th overall in regulation hockey more than halfway through the season, and this genius, who some of his fanboys like to think is the smartest player in hockey history says "we know we're doing the right things". Yeah, he's a real genius. SMH.

44 busts his ass to get to the puck before it goes in, 88 doesn't even leave the offensive zone.

On Sunday, there was a play when 16 made it back to a defensive position before 88 did.

16 was behind the offensive net, and 88 was between the blue line and the circle.

That's not the definition of trying.

It is the single biggest gripe I have with 88, and it seemingly will never change.

Willie's full NMC kicks in July 1st. A team trading for him now gets him for a playoff run and 8 more years. You can now sell high and get market value if you can find a taker unless Tre promised not to trade him while he is GM.

It's not only Marner and most people here have been saying this the whole time.

They blew the rebuild when they didn't balance the freaking team out on the D-core. They never even took drafting a #1 Tender seriously either which is actually more important the D-core when it comes to rebuilds.

Who cares about Mitch Marner, sure he held us hostage and got an overpay but it's just 1 part of the puzzle here. The lack of a solid D core and #1 G is a nail in our competitve coffin. Nylander and Marner have always only been in my eyes a means to get the D core fixed. Matthews is untouchable. I think most people that complain here agree or over time have stated similar. These are the same people you are essentially saying have narrow vision, which isn't true.

Is he is the only guy that does this from time to time?

I can just as easily point out several plays where Marner, instead of stopping and reaching out with his stick, actually tried to separate the player from a puck, than a breakout could have been prevented.

Mitch should not speak after games though .. Matty too for that matter .. neither of these 2 guys have what it takes to lead men .. but they can still be valuable members with right CAP fit

Agree with all this. It's not that Marner and Matthews can't be part of a winning team, it's that they lack leadership qualities and yes Marner is overpaid. Give Matthews the leadership qualities of MacKinnon and shave 2 million off Marner's cap hit, that would go a long way to fixing this disaster but it is what is, our top guys have no leadership qualities, they seem to oblivious to how bad the team is playing so expect nothing to change.
