There are very few athletes that have anything meaningful to say. And Marner is someone should keep his private life to himself.Who cares what athletes say in interviews?

We had these guys called Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf, I'd like to remind you. And if you want to talk polarizing players who the fanbase took years to get over, what about our ex-captain, Mats Sundin?
And that's just getting into high profile polarizing players; I remember quite a number of low profile polarizing players. For example, Brett Lebda? Jeff Finger? Dmitri "forgot how to score in Toronto" Khristich?
You’re getting your stories mixed up. Marner is the one who was passing out forbidden fruit.Isn't today the day Marner arises from the dead and rolls back the rock in the cave?
He is very polarizing. Nylander has been that too, but more almost all hate, when he gets hate, more then half loves when he is loved. I think Marner wins the polarizing prize right now. But with more fans who love him always. Two quite solid camps for and against. That aint hating. Just how it is.WTF do "low polarizing players" have to do with anything? What I said was that Marner is "maybe the most polarizing player to play for the Leafs in the last 50 years". Note the word "maybe" - I wasn't making a factual statement, just saying that Marner is very polarizing, maybe the most polarizing in the last 50 years. It's just an opinion and if you don't share it that's fine.
There have been other players who were polarizing to some degree, Kessel and Phaneuf were mentioned earlier and I already responded to that but there's no reason to mention guys like Lebda (just one example). I mean if I had opined that Marner is the only polarizing player in Leaf history then maybe you'd have a reason to mention some of these other guys but again, the conversation is about being the most polarizing Leaf player in the last 50 years so Jeff Finger, I really don't think so.
Those seem to be situations where the acquisition, usage, or expectations vs results were polarizing. In Marner's case it seems to be more his personality. We had these guys called Phil Kessel and Dion Phaneuf, I'd like to remind you. Marner is the one who stood passively and let it all happen. You’re getting your stories mixed up. Marner is the one who was passing out forbidden fruit.
He is too emotional and not strong enough between the ears. This interview is just a snippet of what happens to him during playoffs when things get emotional/higher stake.Only Research papers on effective leadership of team captains indicate it matters what they say.
His attitude is very immature. He's much too emotional.
If he shows he is capable of playing at an elite level for the entire playoffs (not just the first 4 games) and is a big part of us winning at least one round, that's the only way I'd be happy with keeping him. I'm also think he will be resigned no matter what so I'm not looking at the future with much optimism at this point.I’m secretly hoping that Mitch gets fed up and is happy to move along.
Of the core four, he’s made the most sense to move in my mind. Great player without a doubt, won’t be replaceable 1-1, but the best bet to return some value and flexibility.
I’m pretty prepared for the team to move on after next year.
It's a subjective thing so no way to measure it, Marner to me takes the prize though. His high points are higher than Nylander (1st team all-star), and his low points are lower (playoff performance and an overwhelming majority voted to trade him rather than keep him). His cap hit is also much higher and is a point of controversy. He is very polarizing. Nylander has been that too, but more almost all hate, when he gets hate, more then half loves when he is loved. I am on Marner camp, but i want more from the Matthews Marner duo this playoff.
Yeah I've been saying a good sports shrink is what he needs for years now. And nobody would care about him saying dumb things in interviews if his words/attitude didn't seem to be an accurate reflection of who he is when the pressure gets cranked up.He is too emotional and not strong enough between the ears. This interview is just a snippet of what happens to him during playoffs when things get emotional/higher stake.
His talent is undeniable. But he needs a good shrink. Connect him with whoever helped get Sammy going again
Maybe I am. He's the one that brought the stone tablets down from the Mount. You’re getting your stories mixed up. Marner is the one who was passing out forbidden fruit.
Marner sat out waiting for 2 applesMarner is the one who stood passively and let it all happen.
I would pay to watch a chat between Sammy's Dad and Marner. His talent is undeniable. But he needs a good shrink. Connect him with whoever helped get Sammy going again
He needs to play in a small market. Big market with tons of media attention he can’t handle. The guy would thrive in Columbus or Arizona. He is too emotional and not strong enough between the ears. And threw them over the glassMaybe I am. He's the one that brought the stone tablets down from the Mount.
The team captain says nothing but Bull Durham cliches.
Yeah, in my imaginary world, they win the whole enchilada, everyone plays great, and he wants out. With nothing left to achieve here, leaving no regrets. If he shows he is capable of playing at an elite level for the entire playoffs (not just the first 4 games) and is a big part of us winning at least one round, that's the only way I'd be happy with keeping him. More from M&M in the playoffs, yes indeed!

Well, he still thrives here, he’s verrryy good….but he’d have less focus on him and he could direct it on the game and his life.He needs to play in a small market. Big market with tons of media attention he can’t handle. The guy would thrive in Columbus or Arizona.
Yes thrive was the wrong word.Well, he still thrives here, he’s verrryy good….but he’d have less focus on him and he could direct it on the game and his life.
Does anyone REALLY thrive in those places? HahaHe needs to play in a small market. Big market with tons of media attention he can’t handle. The guy would thrive in Columbus or Arizona.
The scoring looks pretty balanced among the other 3. The true test would be to add that 11 million back into the team and I bet we would be even betterLeafs are 6-3-1 with Marner injured. 40 gf and 27 ga, +13 goal differential.
Matthews: 10 games 6 goals 15 points
Tavares: 10 games 5 goals 8 assists 13 points.
Nylander: 10 games 6 goals 5 assists 11 points
Not to shambly!
You bet based on nothing. The only ones I ever saw tackle value based on contract was the athletic who had Marner providing surplus value of 3.7 million. The scoring looks pretty balanced among the other 3.
