Marner isn’t a douche, our fan base is just softer than charmin toilet paper lol. Who the hell cares about how he is? All that matters is his play on the ice. Why do you care so much as a grown man what an athlete says at a press conference
If he played in the playoffs relative to his price point I doubt anyone would care what he says in a presser.

Wtf does a presser have to do with his play in the playoffs? Zero correlation. Only in Toronto are people frothing at the mouth to over. Analyze a press conference… words LOL if you look at just that from a birds eye view it’s dumb as hell

The media is hard as hell on him and that’s fine. The media should be hard on players but they take it to another level with him. Willy pre extension got ut the hardest but it’s def flipped to Marner.

Media didn’t do anything for Marner’s extension and it’s absurd to think it played any role. Dubas had a plan and it didn’t work. No one but the organization is to blame. It’s not on the players or their families to manage the teams cap
So you think that Dreger throwing out stupid numbers constantly and talking about offer sheets had no effect on Dubas who just went through a hold out with Willy that made his season a waste? ok...

Darren Dreger's salary inflation talk is so consistent, I wonder if he doesn't have ownership stake in the agencies themselves.

Matthews doesn’t need Marner and visa versa. Who cares if Matthews scores 70 goals if their line gets shutdown in the playoffs. Neither performs to their potential in tight checking physical hockey series. Let Matthews play with Domi and Bertuzzi who can both feed him the puck, score in tight and fight his battles. Put Marner with Tavares and McCann who are both shooters and who are hard on the puck. Play Nylander with Jarnkrok and Knies/Robertson where all three can shoot the puck and Jarnkrok is defensively responsible. Spread the offense so they’re not so easily shutdown and have the star players share the ice time playing 20 minutes a night instead of 23-25 where they get more run down the deeper they go in the playoffs.

Judging my his social he's extremely supportive of teammates. And judging by his and others they spend a good amount of off ice time together.

Most polarizing Leafs player in the last 50? Well that's a statement you just can't back up.

We get it, you hate him, congrats.
If you think other players have been more polarizing than Marner, feel free to name a few. Take your time, I'll wait.

This "hate" card you're playing got old years ago, come up with some new material already. I don't even know the guy so I don't care about him one way or the other, all I hate is the way he goes AWOL 4 games into the playoffs.

Do you subscribe to People magazine?
No I don't. Why do you ask?

I couldn't agree more with the bolded. It's a team game after all and it's always a bit weird to see how excited some people get over regular season individual point totals, goals or whatever else.

I like these line suggestions a lot, I wish I wasn't almost certain that Keefe will immediately put M&M back together.

Thats actually not very hard. I don't even have to go back that far. Jake Gardiner, Phil Kessel, Morgan Rielly, James Reimer, Brian Leetch, Dion Phaneuf, Tie Domi(hated outside of our franchise and even by some fans at the time despite rose colored glasses), and Glenn Heally come to mind off the top of my head.

Other than with a half a dozen of so here, he’s extremely popular.

I'll add Jim McKenny and Larry Murphy.
McKenny was the first player I remember getting the wrath of the fans.

It's not enough to be hated, polarizing requires extreme opposite opinions. Rielly isn't hated that much, Phaneuf wasn't loved that much, Reimer, Gardiner and especially Domi weren't good enough players to be polarizing, Kessel wasn't loved that much, and LOL Brian Leetch, guy was only here for a cup of coffee.

Marner isn't even hated that much, but he's loved by some people here beyond any reasonable measure. Just look at the number of people here who lose their minds whenever anyone dares to suggest that Marner deserves some criticism.

Imagine if Marner scored more than 1 goal every 5 playoff games ? At some point we cant pay for lack of big game production. Im sorry but $12 Million spent on the back end means one less goal per game. This is both Tavares and Marners year to put up or go get your overpaid contract elsewhere.`Dont ever forget the last Gm was an amateur.

Boring, classic trolling. Where are the mods?
I’ll read and listen to people critique his game all day long. He’s definitely earned criticism for his playoffs especially, as have the entire team. My point was about the posts on his public speaking and conclusions being jumped to about the type of person he is. If that’s considered trolling then so be it.
