Sigh, don't remind me. I was happy when JT chose us, so were like 99% of the people posting here, I would have never in a million years thought that we'd be sitting here all these years later with just one series win to our credit. So sad.

No one could predict it. The asset mismanagement by Dubas is staggering. Not to mention I feel like we are the first team to experience the effect of too many stars.

Put two elite players on one team, and they push each other, but core of 4, no one feels the pressure. Everyone always has a build in "others can steal this one for me" and if sh*t goes sideways - "others felt short too".

The comparable I use is Pasta - he knows he needs to perform because they have no other 11M player. Now he'll have bad nights but never drops his competitive level. I think it creates a different locker room, team trying to match his competitive level (Marchands, McAvoys ..).

Meanwhile, we are still speculating what would happen if they all performed at the same time and or for 60 min.

Aren't there only 18 games last 2 playoffs?

7 Tampa 1, 6 Tampa 2, 5 Flordoa?

Or did you include Habs series here as well? B/c i thought 2020 and 2021 would be considered COVID yeara

If above includes habs, Nylander gets done dirty because he was on the ice for I think 2 or 3 goals which he was at no fault

- Game 1 - 1-0 goal by anderson, nylander is in position as winger, I think Kerfoot turns it over and they get breakway and score
- Galchenyuk turnover Game 5 - Nylander is down by boards, galchenyuk has to make a simple pass down low instead tries going cross ice and thet score
- Think there was 1 or 2 more of those type of plays

His impact was a lot bigger than it looked. 8 in 7 that year with pile of trash in kerfoot + galchenyuk/whoever played before galchenyuk came in

He was on ice for goals caused by his linemates lack of awareness and smarts

The list did not include the Habs series.

Even if it did, Marner would still have the most points on the team and his goal differential would be even more impressive. I usually post 5v5 numbers but wanted to go even strength in part to reflect the value of Nylander.

"Normally that’s problematic. The Toronto Maple Leafs believe it’s very minor," Dreger said on Thursday. "They got a second opinion to make sure it’s being managed correctly. He hasn’t been on the ice this week so I don’t suspect he’ll be ready to go Saturday. But it’s possible. They’re not ruling him out. But they do want to make sure that they do take the time necessary to make sure that he gets the treatment that he needs."

It would have to include the habs series

Or i think you made a typo for leafs records

Last 2 playoffs we have 18 playoff games but your post showed us as 11-14 but we should be 8-10

Oops your right on the team record. Might have started it on 3 year (which I pretty much always do) but changed it right after.

Player stats are all on the 18 game sample though.

True

Good production overall for 3 of the big 4

Tavares panther series hurts him

Leafs cant definately produce vs the lightning. Our stars best playoffs came vs them

Boston is older and not as good as 2018 and 2019 + 3 core guys are in their 2-3 year top end year period now. They should have strong series vs the bruins this year

The first 2 games were absolute wars and both teams played really well and I don't think we can make any huge judgement calls on the Leafs last week with the flu sweeping through the team.

Just have to hope the team peaks in the playoffs, we have no injury issues and, most importantly, one of our goalies catches fire and frustrates the other team.

When is the last time a team won a cup with someone with Marners type of personality as the main piece?

Everyone talks about the compete level of the greatest leaders. Jordan, Kobe. In hockey it'd guys like Yzerman, Forsberg, Crosby etc.

I recently watched a Twitter of the Leafs coming on the ice from the tunnel and Marner is making childish squawking noises like a bird... we saw last year he was in a sprint with Bunting and making childish noises. We see him "hitting the gritty"... etc.

Sure he's a liked teammate, but he also comes off as a class clown and childish. Certainly doesn't come off like a man. Additionally he's soft, small both in height and in build and he has terrible mental strength.... which he reminds everyone of almost Weekly with comments about media being mean. In fact watching "the last dance" MJ actually said he refused to let teammates joke around in practice. That's how focused on winning he was. Meanwhile, Marner is the class clown before "games"... even after years of playoff failures.

Marner should not be wearing an A.

I'd probably give some rope to Marners crappy playoffs if he at the very least acted serious and professional.

I might have to take back my comments on Matthews being slightly above Marner for the engine of this team

We could really use marner back right now

This exactly ^^(can't like messages for two more months - ban earned in this thread :D).

It's the same story for all great players. Jagr did 1000 squats a day since the age of 5, had insane training sessions out of hours, and demanded keys to every arena he played in so he could train at any time. He also told reporters one time that when everyone on the ice starts to slow down in the third period, he can still push it and that's how he got the most GW goals in NHL history ( lol that and being Jagr I guess ).

Chara being a gym rat, inspiring Marchand and so on...

It would be so Leafy for the guy who was on pace for 117 points when he signed his $11.5mx8 deal to finish with less than 100 points.
It's reasonable to assume he would have hit 100 pretty easily in the past if not for missing some games.

That is what makes it so unpredictable. I never thought Willie would get to 100, let alone get there before Marner. Of course, let's hope we did not jinx him and he gets there. Mitch will get his 110 next year and sign for $12.5mx8.

Almost all the assists in this game by Leafs would've gotten Marner praised as being Gretzky.
LOL. I have to admit, a similar thought crossed my mind when Nylander made that slick play on the first goal
Raise your hand if you thought 88 would hit 100 points ahead of 16.
Well Marner benefits from playing with Matthews but earlier it was explained to me here that Nylander benefits more from not playing on the top line and therefore facing easier competition than Marner. Apparently that's why the NHL scoring leaderboard is regularly topped by 2nd/3rd liners, you know, guys like McDavid, Kucherov, MacKinnon, Pastrnak and in earlier days guys like Gretzky, Lemieux, Esposito, Lafleur and so on. ;)

That would indeed be Leafy but to be fair, I think Marner's been on pace for 100ish point a time or two. But I really don't care about regular season, I'm just hoping he can play his best in the playoffs!

Anyhow nice to see the boys win a laugher last night, would have been tiresome to read a few more days of posts about how terrible the team is without it's "engine". Anyway, I hope Marner's back for the next one, Carolina will be tough.

True. I was one of the few who were against the signing from the start - nothing against JT, but he was not what we needed - and even I expected more than one playoff win.
