Marner was sick one game and played d for another
I like that you posted some reasoning instead or the typical lolz post. Matthews is shooting 21% and majority of Marners points are from him. Marner struggles when away from Matthews. Not just this year either. He had one great season with Tavares and since been not good.

Meanwhile, Nylander is shooting the lights out on any line. Keefe even said as much that he jeeps Nylander and Matthew's separated to give fits to opponents matches.

Marner was 1.13 ppg in the second half of his second year playing with Kadri. He continued with Tavares and then Matthews in his career. Your theories about the causality of his success is cringe

I don't know how you can know the sport, watch every game this team plays, and NOT realize Mitch Marner is the best player on this team.

He is the ENGINE of this team.

Offense. Defense. PP. PK. Elite. ELITE!

So underrated.
Certainly the best since Christmas. He didn’t start the year off very well by his standards

I take Matthews over Marner pretty easily, and probably Nylander as well but who cares?
.
It's kind of pointless to talk about who's "best". We have some talented players, why not enjoy them all without comparing them? What really matters in the end is how the team does. So far they've been a good regular season team that's not so good in the playoffs, hopefully they can start a new narrative in April.

Bourne and Bunkis said post game, he’s back to being “the engine of the team”. They aren’t wrong, as pretty much everyone is in agreement, so who’s “best” is probably the wrong question. Is Marner the most important player? Given how he gets all the flack for failures too, isn’t that an admission that yes he is? It’s an open question.

As an aside, I hardly have anyone on ignore here, but I really recommend it for the stooge patrol here, did it last year and love not having to read the useless tripe. Total waste of time, zero value added.

Best ... most important ... who cares? Why do people constantly feel the need to argue player A vs player B? All you're doing is stirring up shit for no reason.

He's always been reg. season good. And this season no different playing well.
Yup. A bit of a slow start but who cares? Everyone has their hot and cold spells but year to year, he's been very consistent and by the time 82 games have been played, you can count on him to have produced at a pace that would give him something like 90-110 points over a full season. Whether he'd get much less without Matthews or not is also a pointless discussion, obviously he benefits from playing with Matthews but Matthews also benefits from playing with Marner, that's just the way it goes.

I don't understand the people who need to pick him apart when he has a bad regular season game (everyone does from time to time), and just as pointless are the posts raving about how godlike he is when he has a good game. Regular season Marner is money in the bank, I'll just leave it at that as to not ruffle any feathers. :)

Very few players are elite for an entire season.
McDavid?

Marners dominance on the boards last night should give any serious posters here positive vibes moving forward. He was amazing.

Yop. great to see.

It gives us more options, plus board battles are where you develop your elbows, so to speak.

Are we seriously doing this again? Marner is not the best player on this team. It's Matthews. It's not even up for debate
Its Marner.

When the team is playing best, its when Marner is playing best, like he has been lately. Its no coincidence the team looks as good as it has all year at the same time Marner has been in God mode. He is the engine.

We have a winning record when Matthews is out.

We have a winning record when Rielly is out.

We have a winning record when Tavares is out

We have a winning record when Nylander is out.

When Marner is out our record is HORRENDOUS.

The common denominator is when Marner leaves, the offense dries up.

He is the engine.

Yes when Rielly is out, we win almost every game. It follows that Rielly's so bad, that we're a much better team without him. Right?

Give your head a shake. Actually, better make that two shakes.

Nylander has been out 8 games over 5 years?

Oh..you decided to go back in time? For some unknown reason. Still better than the typical lolz). Happy to respond.

Marner had 36 points in 24 games, a run of 1.3 ppg. Second half is 41 games FYI. Small correction.

Are we sleeping on Kadri's skill? Kadri was attached to Komarov for two seasons before Babs put Marner on the line, and the line produced very well for the 20-some games it was together. Kadri was a 7th overall pick and a very skilled player. He had abysmal linemates in his career (see photo attached) and was used as a shutdown center by Babs. Kadri had 87 points in 71 gp playing with second liners in Colorado. Thats a 100 point pace. Does Marner have a year we can reference wirh 2nd liners where he produced 1.22 ppg?

Point stands - Keefe admitted that he keeps Nylander and Matthew's apart to create match-up issues. He tried Marner away from Matthews and Marner struggled. Marner has struggled away from Matthews for some time now. Nylander is producing with anyone he's paired with. We've yet to see Marner carry 2nd line players. Yet we continue to hear that Marner is the reason Tavares, Matthews and Kadri produced x amount of points. Yet they have similar seasons and even better ppg with 2nd, 3rd line players. But we can't say the same about Marner wirh 2nd/3rd liners. Maybe these incredibly skilled players are lifting Marner?

Imagine if Marner had these linemates?

Wow, those linemates are pretty bad, worse than I remembered. Kadri was my favorite player, he was a lot better than some people gave him credit for.

They said the same thing on Sportsnet, when he's playing best the team looks their best.
