Mitch Marner, Yet Again

As I've explained multiple times. This theory is just incorrect.

The main reason we lose is we score 2.1 goals a game.

All this money on offence and we can't score.

If we scored 3 goals a game average and still lost I'd be willing to blame the goalie.

We just suck at scoring goals in the postseason.

Bozo the Keefe’s scheme and style of play is a proven failure in the playoffs. The east-west skating around in circles trying to stick handle into the offensive zone will never work in the playoffs.

Berube has them forechecking much harder playing dump and chase which is exactly what’s required in the playoffs.

I don’t expect you to comprehend these differences, but once the Leafs are finally winning in the playoffs this year I’m sure you’ll be front and centre on the bandwagon.

Throughout their careers, Marner has outperformed Matthews in the playoffs.

And Matthews literally disappeared last year when he decided to sit out two games because he had diarrhea. Not exactly what you’d expect from a captain.

Do you want to run Matthews out of town too?
If we lose in the 1st round again and he’s ineffective, I might want to. Lol.

I wouldn’t put money on this.

Right and if the Leafs suck ass in the playoffs again I expect a 6 pack as an apology?

Aren't you a bit too confident in Berube given the total lack of actual evidence so far.

IMHO if Marner walks at the end of the year I think one of the reasons would be because of Berube crappy system.
GM’s hand out NMC like candy it seems then get in a bind when the player won’t waive it. Then you have fans turn on that player who is just exercising his right.
Blame the GM. There was a window and he let it pass. Then he gives 34 and 88 a full NMC on their new contracts.
It's always been someone else's fault for this cor .
It's time to start laying it on the core

Treliving had a week to deal Marner not knowing the organization.

Blame the previous GM for not making changes to the core.
We have given up some much draft capital to get this core .
Iam almost done with this team

I also don't see why we would suddenly ramp up the goal scoring in the playoffs when the regular season has been a struggle to get shots on net.

Marner is not the best north south guy. Matthews is meh at it. Tavares isn't good at it either.

Nylander is the one guy best suited for north south rushes, yet we cripple it every time with those shitty drop passes on the PP.

It sounds like Dubas wanted to move someone, they tried to move Nylander at one point and they were about to trade Marner, until Shanahan said no.

The person to blame is Shanahan.

We overpaid on his RFA maybe he should accept an underpay on his UFA sunset contract. He doesnt work like that though. He is a good player, not a playoff warrior so at this point if cup pursuit is the objective is it addition by subtraction?
Exactly! I still can’t believe people want to pay 12 plus for a guy that can only produce points if he’s paired with another 12 plus scorer. If he could turn Laughton or Domi into 30 plus goal scorers I may give him 12.

2g and 2a in 7 games vs Panthers and Senators. He is what he is and you are dilutional if you think his game will change in the playoffs when there are not many penalties called and he can get some apples.

He is Alex Kerfoot 5 on 5 in the playoffs. It is comical watching him try to finish checks. The only checks he is interested in are the ones that he can cash.

He will be run out of town.
He won't be run out of town. He might willfully leave, but the front office has made it clear they'd much prefer he stay.

This thread is wild. He's been our MVP this season, he was instrumental in two GWG at the Four Nations (including the tournament winner), he's 5th in the league in points, close to another career year, and carried us through some times when everyone else was hurt... and people think he's worth less than Tyler Seguin.

Who said he is worth less than Seguin? Many would be glad to sign him for a bit more than the Nylander deal based on the new cap ($12.5m-$12.8m). The question is does he want to stay without playoff success and have we seen enough of this same rerun to tell us it is time to go in a different direction?

6 pts in 5 games needed to hit 100.

Does he choke it or get the job done?
Chokers choke but these are not the playoffs and he owns the Red Wings so he probably get it done.

How much is a 25 goal, 75 assist small, soft, weak, skilled, playmaking winger who's goal scoring is trending down worth on the open market?

I'd say around 11M would be fair for him. Gives him 88M

Nylander makes 11.5M though and he shouldnt be making that much as hes a worse player than Marner still.

if marner has a great playoffs for once then he could be worth 12M+ but another 3 or 4 in 7 would make me hesitant to pay him more than 10.5M

I’ve watched the games my friend, that’s why I’m confident in Berube taking them farther in the playoffs this year than Bozo the Keefe did in half a decade.

That’s why you need to actually watch the games and not just look at the box score. Then again, if you have no idea what you’re watching, glancing at the stat sheet is probably more useful.

As I’ve explained numerous times to the casual observers, novice fans and bandwagon jumpers, the two biggest issues holding back the Leafs from playoff success were terrible goaltending and an incompetent coach.

Treliving has resolved both of those issues.
You sure the underperforming core has nothing to do with it? Or are we just scapegoating Keefe for that?

Let me ask you this: why does Marner deserve a higher cap % than Pasta? Pasta actually has 3 straight 100 point seasons. What has Marner accomplished?
He deserves to be between Nylander and Matthews, Pastrnak has nothing to do with it.
