Mitch Marner, Yet Again

I think the funny stat on that is how many are on EN goals. When you dissect MMs numbers you are left with a player that is good but nowhere near 13m or whatever. By contrast Nylander is ramping up his value as he has turned into a league leading scorer from the 2nd line no less.

Nylander is more key to victory than Marner.
Nylander is excellent player along with Marner. How many are on EN goals? 3? 4?

You forgot for a player that has 98 giveaways and refused to leave when told we wanted to move on.

MM on a huge contract will almost certainly ensure this organization does not win a cup in the next decade. If you are up for that keep supporting him.
There are a few players with more than 100 giveaways that make the same or more money than he does. That is not the same as takeaways where Mitch leads all forwards and is one behind the league leader.

This is the sad truth. As good a player as he is, he is obsessed with stat padding. Corsi shots that have extremely low probability of going in. Trying to force plays that aren't there with Jr. Level circus tricks. Unnecessary edge work to make a spectacle and ditching every puck that puts him in threat of any whatsoever contact.

If you think that is leading us to a cup. I don't know what to tell you.

Yeah, everyone is.

The guy is hoping to get his first 100point season. It’s touch and go for that. This is after 9 seasons……he might make it.
Do we really want to give him 13 million. Those stats are clearly not worth 13 million
He might. What is at now 89? 90? I don't think there have been any negotiations, so there is no point in assuming 13M. It is a strawman at this point

I am scared to shit that Shananhans final act will be to lock the boyband here and leave with zero success. Marner is a spectacle on ice, look at my edge work, look at my twirl, behind the back pass or as Don would say being cute. He went to the net once or twice last night and outside that he just stays in the shadows and plays opportunist. When the battle comes to him, the fight is lost before it starts and I hope people watch for that this playoffs. Hopefully we win but, not confident. Had he accepted that Rantanen trade, we would be in a way stronger position.

13.7m I think was the insider Kyperd reported number that he was looking at. It's pie in the sky to anyone with a brain though.

I don't believe Kypreos, but there are other reports that hasn't negotiated. Maybe Kypreos is right. Maybe he hasn't negotiated at all. He can still choose free agency regardless.

Everyone could be right, the Leafs have presented offers during the season, the Marner camp saying they won’t negotiate during the season, pretty simple.

It was Draisaitl money but he backed off the next day and said $13.8m. I want to keep him but sorry he is barely worth Nylander money because he is not a goal scorer (fact) and you cannot keep running this core back with him close to Matthews money. If he wants to stay, he needs to soften and put the team ahead of his wallet or the fans will run him out of town.

He has not been the best player on the team since the TDL. 34, 88 and 91 have been better.

42 goals trumps 22 goals and 68 assists with 9 games to go. Willie's game is still evolving while Marner is the same soft perimeter playmaking winger that will never win you a playoff series. See Panarin, Huberdeau, and Pettersson.

Marner is too small, too soft, too weak and too afraid to succeed when the big boys show up and play for keeps. Can you see him engaging with Gabrikov like Willie did last night? Seeing Willie battle for pucks, not afraid to take a hit to make a play and going to the dirty areas shows how much of a more all round player he has become (when he wants to be of course).

Yup, definitely shows Marner is a playmaker more than a a goal scorer. It does not indicate that he plays perimeter hockey though.
The very same HNIC panel that praised him last night for his assist happens to be some of the same folks heavily criticizing Marner for his play vs Boston last year as being perimeter player.

The major criticism of Marner in the playoffs is he's far too much of a perimeter player and it's so hilarious watching other posters trying to gaslight Leafs fans into thinking this isn't true.

This is the one thing that really pisses me off about him. He actually can shoot the puck from the slot and be effective. He needs to go there more, and when he does he has to shoot it.
He's beaten goalies over the pad, under the blocker many times but that is when he has room. He does not go close to the dirty areas like Willie now does, unless he has room. Too small, too weak, too afraid ?
