Continued from Player Discussion - Mitch Marner, Again
NO PERSONAL ATTACKS, OR YOU'LL FEEL MY WRATH. AND I'M PARTICULARLY VENGEFUL.
NO PERSONAL ATTACKS, OR YOU'LL FEEL MY WRATH. AND I'M PARTICULARLY VENGEFUL.
Trading a player who won't waive for a player who won't waive and whose team doesn't want to trade is a pointless discussion. My opinion is that Mitch Marner is not good for us because he is slow and weak. He does get points in the regular season, but consistently fades in important playoff games. He has been a key member to a core that has won a single playoff series over the past 8 years.
I feel it would be wise to trade him for Crosby if we can get Sid to sign an extra year and hope for McDavid.
Discuss.
Lastly. I think I am right because the people that disagree have only 8 years of being wrong.
Thank you
We don't know that. Marner loves Dubas. Crosby loves a challenge and winning.Trading a player who won't waive for a player who won't waive and whose team doesn't want to trade is a pointless discussion.
The game against the Americans will show us if he can play against a physical team. If both teams show up, I expect Marner to stay away from any type of contact. My opinion is that Mitch Marner is not good for us because he is slow and weak. If Marner wins the Conn Smythe, I will blow kisses at him at the victory parade as I'm taking victory laps around him on my flying pig. From everything we've read he'll re-sign this summer, and will be highest paid player on the team.
Who knows maybe it will be as the Conn Smythe winner?
No way they bring Shanahan back if they flame out in the playoffs again. I would go shopping on July 1 and only sign Tavares if I cannot find better bang for the buck. We need to add speed and grit. Can the Marner money be better deployed in other areas is an important question because to me it’s about can this core group win a cup together and I don’t think they can. Too similar, too soft and don’t have it in them to battle as hard as their opponents will. They’re not going to suddenly change to become gritty superstars like Crosby, Toews or Kucherov and how can they find that player / leader with these guys running the show ?
As bad as the optics might be, if they flame out in the playoffs again, major roster changes must happen. Let Marner walk, sign Tavares as a 3C to $4M x 4 or let him walk, buyout or trade Domi, take the $22M in addition cap space and bring in players that know how to win when it counts like Bennett, Braydon Schenn, Marchand … Target Chychrun, Eckblad as UFA’s or Rasmus Andersson who is one year away.
If McDavid doesn’t re-sign over the summer in Edmonton, they need to plan to have cap space available for him if he gets to UFA in July 2026 or perhaps trade for him prior to that because Edmonton won’t want to see him walk away for nothing.
Moving off their core group and Thinking outside the box is something the Shanahan Leafs have never been prepared to do. Let’s hope he’s no longer around to prevent it from happening.
That’s nice putting all the team’s failures on one personMy opinion is that Mitch Marner is not good for us because he is slow and weak. Looks like you didn't understand what you're responding to, try reading the post again. That’s nice putting all the team’s failures on one person
Nor so sure .ted rogers takes control once he gets to but alot msleFrom everything we've read he'll re-sign this summer, and will be highest paid player on the team.

So he’s going to have a down year after signing an extension with the leafs. That will be fun next season.Looks like Mitch is gonna be a dad, his wife just posted pregnancy pics

He’s been quite consistent the past several years so..

I’m crying I love that episode
It's a dream of yours not worth discussing. Just shut it down in your head, it's not happening. My opinion is that Mitch Marner is not good for us because he is slow and weak. Glad someone got what I was trying to say. Not saying it’s going to happen but I can only imagine the backlash if it does. It's a well known bugaboo for pro athletes when the first baby comes, the lifestyle adjustment can affect their game. Could just be a wives tale. Ask Morgan how his season following the birth of his first child this past summer has been going.
The Toronto Maple Leafs might be reaching a crossroads with unrestricted free agent winger Mitch Marner, as NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported recently that the star forward is not close to deciding whether he wants to get to free agency. Marner will become an unrestricted free agent and will be free to sign with other teams on July 1, which has led to rumors of potential trades involving the 27-year-old forward.
“Unless there’s something going on that I’m not seeing right now, which is always possible, I don’t sense Mitch Marner is anywhere close to making a decision [about free agency],” Friedman said Monday on Sportsnet 590.
Marner has scored 16 goals with 55 assists through 54 games this season. The Toronto Maple Leafs winger is reaching the end of a six-year, $65.41 million contract that includes a full no-move clause, giving Marner control to veto any possible deal.
Marner’s status with Toronto was further examined after the Colorado Avalanche traded forward Mikko Rantanen to Carolina after it was reported that Rantanen was seeking upwards of $14 Million per year as an unrestricted free agent. Hockey insider Frank Seravalli reported that Colorado first inquired about Marner before moving on to receiving young star forward Martin Necas from the Hurricanes.
Friedman had also stated on January 30 that Marner did not want to be moved midseason and that contract talks had not gained any traction either. At this point, the Leafs will have to wait and see if they can retain Marner this offseason or risk losing the valuable winger for nothing in free agency unless Marner decides to accept a trade. This is a situation to watch as the trade deadline approaches.
Delusional. Letting Marner walk to use his money elsewhere is a ridiculous thought, he’s one of the best Leafs of all time. He’s signed to a large contract because he’s worth the large contract. Letting him walk would make our team worse no matter how you spend the money. Can the Marner money be better deployed in other areas is an important question
Likely going to post a career high. Are we going to boo him because he can’t beat his career high next year?So he’s going to have a down year after signing an extension with the leafs. That will be fun next season.
