Is Marner Going To Be A Star

Marner would need to get 65 points in his final 44 games to reach 100, he'd have to play at a 121 point clip the rest of the way.

I'm not saying he's going to do it but it's not impossible for him ... Particularly if he's caught lightning in a bottle with Matthews and Hyman on a line together.

The hate on marner during the summer was unreal! Posters were losing their minds.

Without mitch we had 4 wins and 8 loses. With him back we have been on a roll!

Marner has a 1.3 ppg (9th in the league and highest on the team) which over an 82 game season would be 106 points. Since keefe took over, he has 17 points in 9 games. Over 82 games that would equal 155 points.

Such a skilled player. Reminds me of the magic man, pavel datsyuk.
The hate was absurd he was and is our best player and people made it seem like he was a scrub asking to be payed like a star. Calling him all kinds of names. He is among the very best players in the league.

We're leaning into our strengths much harder under Keefe but I think we're always going to struggle defensively with this defensive core

Holl is on our shutdown pair and while I love Barrie and Rielly offensively they aren't strong players in their own end

That's a bit of an issue

Muzzin-Holl may arguably be the best shut-down pair we've ever had in the past 10+ years.
Rielly-Barrie may arguably be the best offensive pair we've ever had in the past 10+ years.
Dermott-Ceci may arguably be the best 3rd-pair we've ever had in the past 10+ years.

I think the biggest issue is being comfortable with Keefe's system. IMO it's a fantastic system, but trying to have consistent possession of the puck does have it's disadvantages and we saw it today with the many turnovers by Rielly and Holl.
We just have to play to our strengths of strong offensive play. When we take a commanding lead, Keefe has to tell his defence that it's okay to dump the puck out rather than force possession play.

Being the best shutdown pair over the last 10 years for us isn't a particularly high bar and we're going to need to see Holl do this job for awhile to know he's capable of continuing this level of play

Barrie and Rielly are riverboat gamblers, it's awesome when we have the puck, not great when we don't

Good system, flawed personnel though which limits what we can do defensively

It probably won't be a great thing for us, but I think we can at least be an above average defensive team.

Agreed. Mitch has led our team in scoring for the last 2 seasons and very may well finish this season with the most once again. Kid is a gamer. There is a reason he won all those awards in junior.

Btw, that may have been one of the best periods from a leaf in recent memory. 5 points in one period! 3 of which came within 59 seconds.

I wonder what the record for the fastest 3 points by one player is? Cant be much faster than that.

Marner looked like Reggie Miller against the knicks, 3 points in one minute? Awesome.
This is my first post ever, on any site. Go easy on me.

Welcome and awesome first post!

I think someone from the hawks had 3 goals in 50 seconds back in the 1960s. Might be the record.

Wow good call! Just looked it up, you're close.

"Bill Mosienko of the Chicago Blackhawks holds the record for the fastest three goals by one player; he had a hat trick in 21 secondsagainst the Rangers on March 23, 1952."

Wild!

But that's 3 goals. I wonder if a player has gotten 3 points faster than that.

I wonder if players like being picked for the all star game. If it was me, I'd rather have the vacation with my family.
Older players rather the time off. Younger guys want to be there especially if they haven't before. It's a status thing. Maybe Matthews wouldn't care, but I'd assume Marner would like to get that recognition since he hasn't made it yet.

I wonder.....thanks for the hospitality. I've been reading these forums for a year or so, never posted due to some of the childish behavior.

Hope theres more like you!

And Marner is a star, nu doot aboot it. I'm predicting an offensive explosion now that 34 and 16 are together, hopefully more often if not permanently. Cant believe it took this long.

I will never forget Franzen's 4 goal, 6 point performance in the playoffs in 2009-2010. He scored 3 goals in the span of 3 minutes and 30 seconds. His 6 points on the 7 Detroit goals in that game kept the Wings alive for another game in the playoffs.

That being said, I don't know what the record is for the fastest 5 points by a player. Marner keeps on breaking records, so I wouldn't doubt it if the record holder is Marner now ;)

This was the day Marner said shut the f*** about my contract....and we all did!!!

Under Babcock: 53.9 cf% (12th) | 30.4 gf% (21st) | 48.1 xgf% (14th)
Under Keefe: 55.4 cf% (1st) | 66.7 gf% (6th) | 59 xgf% (1st)

really interesting to see his overall game turn around completely. He's been a real all around player lately.
Also, 12 5v5 points leads the team in Keefe's tenure

Lately? I'd say he's been our best all around forward since drafted.
