Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Not sure of any contending NHL GM that watched the playoffs would say " you know what we could use? A 15 mil winger
But Anaheim and Utah will offer to deal with state tax issues .. it will be a $$$ vs competitive team issue for Mitch .. and weather is really nice in Anaheim and there is still almost no serious hockey market there so he could move around real easy

Why are you only focusing on one season and not on the playoffs at all? Maybe that would answer your question, but you’re a smart guy so I’m sure you knew that already.

I hope playoffs don't matter to his next team because they'll be disappointed.

.
Marner should sign a 4 year deal with a non playoff team, that is about 5 years away from competing for the Stanley Cup.
I expect him to sign a 4 or 5 yr deal (4x14 5x14.5) with Pittsburg, especially if he can get Dubas negotiating against himself.

The Leafs decision to move on and apparently Mitchys decision to move on is clear. What also is clear that the spoiled petulant man boy that fans thought was real, Mitchy proved was correct.
I don't Like you no more, I am going to take my wife, baby, dog and my charity and leave. Nah nah nah nah. I may even leave Muskoka...take that...

Oh the horror!

I’m taking issue with the way you’re framing this Marner situation.
I take issue with the way you've framed pretty much everything over the past 7 years. I'm not surprised you take issue with me framing this correctly.
You’ve painted a dire picture of how Marner is mistreated by the city despite how he’s said that he’s been treated as if he’s a god. And you’ve also painted a picture of an unliveable Toronto situation and also tried to frame the failure to re-with Marner on Brad Treliving who deserves to be fired. So in the end which is it? The GM who mistreated Marner, who forced him to leave because there’s been too much disrespect in negotiations? Or is it the city that made it impossible for the GM to re-sign someone dead set on leaving because it’s a social media echo chamber hellscape?
He didn't say that "he’s been treated as if he’s a god". He said "we're looked upon as, you know, kind of gods here to be honest". You don't seem to get that that is not always a positive, and that it doesn't take away from the nonsense he's had to put up with. I also never said the situation is "unliveable". It's toxic and disgusting, but Marner has put up with it all to be here, and he was far from "impossible for the GM to re-sign". Treliving had a responsibility to not let it get to this point, and an opportunity to get him signed last offseason, but he failed at that, and then proceeded to make things worse and dig his own grave during the season. It's one thing to have some fans and the media be toxic. It's another to have some fans, the media, and your own team be toxic.
To put this into further spin territory, Treliving has also tried to trade Marner, let’s say even help him by finding a better city to live and play in.
Except he didn't do that. He just made a public spectacle over Carolina's last minute deadline attempt to acquire him, despite knowing that Marner would never agree to something like that; much less with a baby incoming.
Long story short, maybe you can’t go blaming everybody except Marner for why this relationship went sideways. If there’s an origin point to this relationship breaking down it’s that Marner sucks in the playoffs and isn’t worth his contract and definitely not worth the next one.
Long story short, you can’t go blaming Marner for other people's failures. Marner doesn't suck in the playoffs, and he's been worth all his contracts. If there’s an origin point to this relationship breaking down, it's people getting these kind of false ideas in their head and deciding to spread hate.
Seriously, stop inventing new gripes where there was none.
Seriously, stop dismissing everything that happened.
Same draft, Dylan Strome was selected third overall. He outscored Marner 129 to 126. And guess what. They sent his generational ass back the OHL back in 2015-16 too.
The guy drafted ahead of him at 3 was sent back for 2 years.
As funny as it is to see you two try and use the Arizona Coyotes as the standard of proper development, Strome got to play with McDavid - who was putting up one of the best seasons in OHL history - and he still produced worse than Marner in the regular season (1.90<2.00) and playoffs (1.10<2.29), and he struggled any time he was in the NHL for years, so not really comparable. Only 4 U18 players in OHL history have put up 2+ P/GP in the regular season and playoffs - Lindros, McDavid, Tavares, and Marner. McDavid and Tavares jumped straight into the NHL, and the only reason Lindros didn't was that he wouldn't sign. Marner could have handled the NHL, but we cut a year off of his career to tank.
Andrew Cristall is probably fuming at the Caps and is going to hold a grudge against them for sending him back in his D+2.
Obviously, there is a big difference between a 19 year old 40th overall putting up 1.79 P/GP in the regular season and 1.36 P/GP in the playoffs, and a 17 year old 4th overall (in a generational draft) putting up 2.00 P/GP in the regular season and 2.29 P/GP in the playoffs.

When someone is upset by literally everything, aka way they were treated in 2016, which was roughly $70 million in earnings ago, or by the coach who was fired 6 years, or hard done by the organization whose entire leadership has basically been fired for standing by you, or you hate the fans because they look at you like gods but technically don’t treat you like one, or because of social media even though you’re not on it, and you’re outwardly emoting that you’re jealous of your friend for the captaincy over what amounts to status chasing…

You know what that all amounts to? A tantrum. If he wanted to change his situation he could have left ages ago like an adult making a real life choice. I think a lot of us would have preferred it. He could have also left quietly and moved on with his life. But no, he’s gotta make his case about how hard done he is by literally everyone after he’s paid up in full and failed to deliver once again.

And you know what, poor you for having to even try to get this kind of story straight. The yarns that have been spun, the sciences you have had to invent to justify not only his upcoming contract but the last one. Pretty much every upper echelon forward in the league has been dragged through the mud by you to even normalize Marner’s pay day.

I cannot wait for July 1 to come soon enough.

i mean i do get the marner crowd thinking matthews gets off scott free... i mean he doesn't but marner def takes more bullets. my retort is that the man has 0 goals in games 5-7, which is 18 games. like how can anyone think they're a top 5 player with such disgraceful production.

I’m seeing talk that the reason Marner isn’t going back with the Leafs is he feels disrespected for not being made captain.

Yep, was mentioned yesterday, we just added it to the fantasy pile.

Looking forward to what whacky things people will come up with today. Yesterday would be tough to beat but we're hopeful.

Obviously we have no way of verifying this, but it is pretty on brand for Paul Marner and camp.

The reports are crazy on their own until you align them with Marner’s hostility towards the Leafs as he makes his exit and other items that have leaked out over the years.

Same camp that didn’t have a problem with signing without Schedule B’s until Auston got them. Same camp that came out and made a stink the same day Matthews was signed to his first contract.
