Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

yea I don't get how you can be mad at the team because of the previous regime when:

A) They are gone, you are dealing with the gm after that, and in some cases, the gm two times after that. Like forget about it

B) the previous regime literally lost their jobs for you (and the other 3). Dubas bet everything on this core year after year, even when it would've been easier for him to trade them. They kept lossing with the core 4, dubas kept losing and he stuck with them. Had they made deep runs idk if he gets fired lol. As for Shanahan...dude stuck by them even harder, giving the core 4 the call after dubas finally got fired to ensure their safety and hired a GM with the message of not dealing the core 4, so he brought in Tre. Once again they stunk it up and it cost Shanahan his job.

I sorta feel bad for Dubas and Shanahan, cuz they bet everything on the core and their trust was missued. Imagine dubas as the GM for McDrai (he would've overpayed their ass but still), they'd have rewarded his loyalty way more than our guys.

I don't feel sorry for Dubas. He got a second kick of the can in Pittsburgh, where he has displayed his talents. The least he could do is sign Marner to another lifetime deal.

I honestly can't even believe Dekes is still here trying to defend this entire monstrosity.

Deke's admin team had the entire post elc contract era of this core. And they won (lol) two playoff series. An unmitigated disaster. Apparently the nonsense like "zone entries" and "p/60" that made them so bloody overpaid didn't translate well to success. Imagine that. Who could have seen that coming?

I'm just trying to imagine being THIS wrong and still trying to present yourself as the voice of reason.

I was critical of every single solitary thing this admin has done since the embarrassing cave to Nylander in 2018. But if I was wrong, I'd at least own it. If this team won a cup or two, I'd absolutely admit that "zone entries' and "p/60" ended up being very rational reasons to pay these guys so much money. I wouldn't say the team was just "lucky". I would acknowledge I was wrong.

Every forum has one.

He did not win the WJC. Anyway, correct me if I am wrong, was AM34 on the ice, waving his stick when MM made the pass?
You are right, though. he can be a SC winner when he is with the right mix, but I doubt he is one of the drivers.
No he didn't win the WJHC but he did the Memorial Cup (as well as every individual award available).

If he were to play for a team that won for sure he would be a play driver, he'd be on the ice too much not to be.

How did he punish the franchise
What an idiotic take
Do you mean he wouldn’t accept a trade to somewhere he didn’t want to go because his wife was expecting their first child
If there is anyone to blame it’s the leafs themselves
By giving out NMC like Oprah giving out cars.
You get a nmc you get a nmc everybody gets a nmc

I’m fairly forgiving of his refusal to waive. He doesn’t want to do the organization any favours at his own inconvenience, he’s got the protection and we don’t have any choice as fans and watch it unfold.

I take exception at the smear campaign about how the organization, city, fanbase disrespected him which has been leaked out over the past few weeks. It’s an ugly breakup.

You assume it's leaked. It could be fabricated for clicks. Toronto has shit made up about them and their players all the time, because it gets clicks. Marner is the only UFA worth anything this year, so you're going to see tons of media talking about him, because it will get clicks.

This just in, Marner has told the Leafs he won't play for them at any price (E5).

The fact he's having a final meeting with MLSE... It should be "Here's our offer. Don't like it? GTFO. (That goes for you as well, Paul)".

Kessel's game translated into the playoffs.
He was MAD fast and had one of the best shots in the league, lets call that Nylander like.

Marner is neither.
I would take prime Kessel on Matthews' wing any day over Marner...Kessel almost single-handedly defeated Boston in that game 7, even over-coming Chara...too bad the defence and Reimer couldn't hold on.

Be serious. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.

The hostility between player and team is important and given the way he’s been treated over the years the gripes can’t be anything but petty.

Would the NHL be capping the age limit to U20 like the Memorial Cup in your hypothetical Marner cup triumph?

People are so naive and the media plays on that.

I mean, sure, you can believe everything you hear if you want. I just think that's the kind of people that elect people like Trump, and I respect them as much as I respect people who voted that way.

We generally know the shape of the conflict between the player and the team, and we know it’s hostile.

Media can make up the details all they want but knowing the team has treated Marner more than well over the years it doesn’t add up to a history of mistreatment. The specific cases that have been cited were from people who have long been fired.

We also know people like Kypreos and Dreger speak on behalf of Marner, so don’t go crying about the “media” when it turns out his gripes are petty and you lose the PR battle vs the organization that is also co-owned by one conglomerate.

How do you know they speak on behalf of Marner? Maybe they just speak about Marner, on behalf of their bank account.

And Marner is a snowflake

They should just publicly release the 11.5m x 8 offer with limited trade clause off to the media and being done with it.

The offer is there. He wants to be a Leaf or not. He also gets a lot of endorsements around town.

So you're saying they're lying?
How many rumours happen in hockey media? How many actually come true? Of course the media are lying, or maybe just some of their anonymous sources, that may or may not actually exist, are lying. Maybe they just write shit to see who can make the most Leaf fans angry, like Steve Simmons did when he lied about the Kessel hot dog vendor.

But what are actually disputing that’s been reported?

That Marner wants to leave for feelings based reasons?

I'm in no position to dispute any of the stories. To dispute it I would need to know the truth, and none of us fans know that. I just recognize that the media is slimy as f*** and have been caught fabricating shit, so I don't put any stock in anything that's reported unless Bob McKenzie is saying it. He's been good through the years.
