Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

I'm in no position to dispute any of the stories. To dispute it I would need to know the truth, and none of us fans know that. I just recognize that the media is slimy as f*** and have been caught fabricating shit, so I don't put any stock in anything that's reported unless Bob McKenzie is saying it. He's been good through the years.

Fair enough.

I would just say there’s enough bad blood interactions between the two sides that’s been reported to not at least align with the contract dead end and testing of free agency.

Marner continues to expect everything to be handed to him. The Leafs drafted him (was not an automatic pick), fired a coach he didn't like, played him with preferable linemates and ice time, gave him a big $ player friendly extension, gave him an A, and gave him 9 chances to succeed in the playoffs.

The Toronto fanbase (me included) lauded Marner on arrival, bought his jerseys en masse, made excuses for his playoff performances for years, and made him feel (self admittedly) like a god.

And now, when the fanbase finally says "hey, you should probably win some playoff games" after getting paid 68 million dollars (yes, that's the actual number), he says he feels disrespected????

I hate you, Mitch, you entitled loser.

Go away, and don't come back.

I'm gearing up for the inevitable "I told you so" posts from the main board idiots once Marner signs with a new team. It'll be fun.

Okay, now do Matthews and Nylander.

Go away (Marner)
he is.

The perennial late April commute for Marner to Muskoka will be longer than from Toronto, but he'll cope.

The NHLPA will always have a large picture of Dubas in their Hall of Fame and will use Marner as a shining light for "How to get overpaid as a regular season Winger".

I would take prime Kessel on Matthews' wing any day over Marner...Kessel almost single-handedly defeated Boston in that game 7, even over-coming Chara...too bad the defence and Reimer couldn't hold on.

Yep. None of the Leafs current core are fit to even be Kessel's stickboy when it comes to the playoffs.

I think Marner can do better in the playoffs. He'd need a C that actually drives the play. McDavid, MacKinnon, prime Crosby. Matthews can't carry the puck so the two together doesn't work in the post season, when the real hockey starts.

Well, he'd need someone that can at LEAST zone entry and is really fast.

I’m fairly forgiving of his refusal to waive. He doesn’t want to do the organization any favours at his own inconvenience, he’s got the protection and we don’t have any choice as fans and watch it unfold.

I take exception at the smear campaign about how the organization, city, fanbase disrespected him which has been leaked out over the past few weeks. It’s an ugly breakup.
You take exception to the fact he was accosted while walking his dog, had garbage throw on his lawn, had death threats about his family especially his newborn son.

No this is absolutely horrible and way out of line.

He will go and we will see if this management is smart enough to spend his money wisely. I don’t think Brad is that smart.

I genuinely think he can as well. But more as a secondary piece on a team (at least as far as the postseason goes) that has guys who can pull out a win for him when the games get tight.

In Toronto his weaknesses weren't ever able to be offset by anyone else in the core which kept the spotlight on him (fairly or unfairly).

His next challenge is he's going to have the highest aav on his new team for the foreseeable future,.which means he's going to be expected to lead again. Which isn't the best scenario.

Marner's last deal wasn't that smart either.

Okay, now do Matthews and Nylander.

I promise you, if Matthews (or Nylander) was the one hitting free agency right now and was refusing to negotiate and was badmouthing the team claiming he was being disrespected, I'd be saying the same things about them. But Nylander and Matthews haven't disappeared in the last half of every single playoff series. They never acted like any criticism was some personal slight from a toxic fanbase.

And even still, I'd be pretty happy if the team moved on from either or both of them, too. They can go rot in Utah if they aren't willing to try in a game 7 here.

All I ever see here is this pinballing between ridiculing Treliving, resenting the organization for this and that and schedule B bonuses and Babcock history, drama last summer over the captaincy now and these stories of him having these terrible interactions.

You can’t go and talk about how extremely bad all of Toronto has treated you based on a couple of fringe cases, never entertained the idea of leaving, and then be upset at the organization testing out the idea of moving you.

So I guess for you, you're more feeling like a jilted lover because Marner is leaving the team, and don't actually care about his playoff performances. If you did, you would be trashing the rest of the team, who have put up worse numbers in the playoffs.

Wasn't there some offer sheet talk around Marner's last deal? Ferris isn't known for negotiating in good faith.

Marner was allegedly given two offer sheets, which he claims to not even have looked at.
I wish he did know that we know he was so pissed off.
I don't think we have happy room no wonder they never did anything.
My only question did management know this.

You can see how Florida sticks together all for one no ego's.

Remember when Mitch’s feelings were hurt when Matthews signed his contract and his agent made a stink about it the same day:

There’s never been a time when he didn’t see himself as a disrespected.

Oh right. Being a drama queen over a teammate's contract isn't done. I hope Marner ends up with the biggest contract in the league. Have fun living up to it then dealing with the "disrespect" afterwards.

So you just stopped reading before the last 2 sentences where I said Matthews and Nylander can go too because they don't try in a game 7? Got it.

Well William leads the team over the last 4 years 16 goals 35 points, compared to Mitch 8 goals 30 points. Going back more than 4 years doesn’t relate to a player’s worth today. So I wouldn’t be paying Mitch as much as William, especially if you think William is overpaid.
Damn, you didn't have to use logical facts and reasoning like that.

Willy also missed 3 games last year.
