The amount of excuses made for this guy is staggering - the buck stops with the GM, and he's the one who has now lost 3 superstar players. Let's stop sugarcoating this: we know he had autonomy to make moves.

The buck stopped at Shanny. Tre was not allowed to trade Marner when he got here and his NMC kicked in a month later. Tre shopped both Nylander and Marner but could not get a deal done. Tre is not stupid. I think he realizes what Dubas figured out before he left that the 3 amigos do not hate losing enough and are not willing to play outside their comfort zones.

I don't know how exactly you guys create these fallacies in your head, but there's absolutely nothing to suggest that he wasn't allowed to trade off the core - mainly because he tried to trade the core (Nylander) as soon as he got here.
Him not being able to get a deal done, is on him. Not on Shanahan.
And if he realized the 3 amigos don't hate losing enough, then he should have reacted to that information rather than trying to extend Marner lol.

It is very possible that, should Marner choose one of the aforementioned teams, he will become the highest paid player in the NHL, surpassing Leon Draisaitl's $14 million AAV.
You're the only one that fundamentally misunderstands why and when people praise Marner, to the point that you're creating conspiracy theories out of nothing to sustain your narrative. Marner being an amazing player is the actual point, and praise comes from all sorts of people - both with and without incentive to see him do well - and through all sorts of situations - good, bad, and everything in between. Even when there's no more hockey to even be played. In fact, if there's any time it happens the most, it's in response to people spreading falsehoods about him, much like you are now.
Back to the original point, Treliving and Berube explicitly said they wanted to re-sign Marner. You were wrong.

Marner has played a part, but he's not the one to blame for where we are. Marner's primary responsibility is to do what's best for him and his family. It is the responsibility of the GM to do what's best for the team, and ensure things don't get to this stage, and Treliving has failed.

Tre was looking to trade Nylander two summer's ago for a top dman. Could not, so he looked at his options and decided signing him was his best option. Unfortunately he caved and overpaid.
Tried to trade Marner to Vegas this past summer but Vegas hung up the phone when he asked for Theodore.
Asked Marner to waive but Marner refused.
I do not fault Tre much in all of this. Shanny is the common denominator who deserved all the blame and he paid for it with his head.
I'm a supporter of what's best for the team. The cap structure has already worked, and the upcoming cap increases make it even more viable.
