I wanted him traded after the Columbus series. He can't withstand playoff hockey. If Toronto got lucky and played the Oilers he might trick people, like he does in the season but he is the equivalent of sending out a British Musketeer into WWII. He isn't equipped for battle.

Funny how Nylander was dragged around for his contract situation, when Marner did the same BS, for way more money. Like I really don't see how anyone can be delusional enough to watch him play against physical teams in the playoffs and think he's due next time.... Nah lol. He is actually even worse than his stats and that is amazing. I've never watched a guy more ineffective than him in a playoff series. No.... He isn't the worst but he is our #2 player (allegedly) and he gets soooo many chances that other guys would have capitalized on at least a couple times. For his high usage rates and him being tilted so trying even harder makes him the worst forward I've seen in a 2 year playoff run.

Montreal isn't even that physical and they made him look like an amateur trying to dance around. Any time they wanted the puck, they either took it or they let him try to do his weird magic stuff and he would just turn it over and fall down.

But please keep defending him. I'm doing a case study on some posters here.

And you can have size and be an amazing playoff performer. Watch Kane and Point. Even though Patrick Kane is one of the best stickhandlers ever, he doesn't rely on that for everything. If he did, he wouldn't be able to dominate the way he does. You can't be a one trick pony. Both of them also encompass the ability to be part of the rush without needing the puck to fiddle around with and do magic tricks. Notice how Marner almost always has to have the puck and everyone else is kinda just standing around like James Harden's teammates? Kane and Point can also shoot and Marner has a muffin of a shot that you would think would be better by now. It's a lot of things. I'm not gonna lie and say Kane is gritty but came into the league where the stuff you see Marner do was weeded from his game by coaching and teammates. Chicago had a real hockey club. When you have Q, Keith and Toews you just come into the league and drop the bad habits. I know it sounds cliche but it's true. They won cups because they didn't play that way. Point should have won the Conn Smythe last year too....

Anyways it's not about size (lmao). Marner is Johnny Hockey. He plays with the puck too much and nobody respects him. Maybe if they were drafted on teams with leadership they could have learned.

The most unlikable leaf since 2014/2015 Kessel and Phaneuf based off most posts here. Fair is fair. His legacy is on the line next year. He'll either step up and become a lifelong leaf with a dominant performance or he's done and is shipped out with this entire Era being remembered by his greed and incompetence

He needs to have that mamba mentality and say f*** you to any and everyone besides those who can help him be ready for playoff hockey.

Final chance Mitch. Play to win next year and start producing like Marchand, Kane, Kucherov, OV in the playoffs

Mitch Marner is starting to become a one trick pony. Incapable of adapting his game for the playoffs. I seriously doubt he will prove me wrong next season

He will get one more chance. And thats all he needs. I hope and belive he will turn this around next time. But he need help from the coach, break them up when stuff dont work for a looooooooong time. You must be a realy special kind of special kind not making bigger changes on the pp.

Let's hope he gets his one more chance next year because if they do not make the playoffs next year, we will need to heads of the 3 stooges to roll.

If it weren't for the selfishness of Mathews and Marner demanding huge pay days and "Dupe US " capitulating ... We would have money to keep players like Brown - Kapanen- Johnson - and soon to be Hyman .

I think Babcock was correct in thinking Marner should drive his own line and the reasoning is simple.

Marner had elite production with every center he's played with...Tavares and Bozak. He proved long ago he'll produce without Matthews.

We badly needed to shake things up against the Habs and we should have split Matty/Marner up and made the Habs make an adjustment and to get Mitch away from the heavier checking.

I'm not saying Marner/Matty should never play together but it shouldn't be set in stone and we have to be ready to adjust our lineup in different situations.

I want Marner traded but that's mostly due to the covid flat cap. Imagine we were dealing with a 90+ million cap next year. Look how easily we could keep Hyman and more.

The flat cap ruined the game plan, and it's time for Dubas and the management team to adjust. Three 11 million dollar players is simply not sustainable with a flat cap.

Neither is a 30 year old Hyman at 5+ longterm.

He had Nylander production without the goals with Bozak, and that was when he was still on a PP with Matthews and he was still getting JvR and Bozak at ES. JvR was a 30+ goal scorer without the likes of Marner helping him. Marner just helped him become a 35 goal scorer.

I don't think Marner can drive a line. Matthews and Tavares can drive a line. Heck I think Nylander can probably drive a line better on his own than Marner. Did a good job of it in the playoffs with Galchenyuk and Kerfoot on his line. Marner can just compliment scorers very well and make their lives easier... when he doesn't suck. If he doesn't have anything to compliment, however, he is a major non-factor because he has no shot or skill that can make him a threat on his own. That doesn't make him a line driver in my books.

Even if we had a 100 million cap, his comments and demeanour coupled with his post season play would warrant it for me.

Now on a flat cap and a GM who scorched earth the depth in favour of 4 forward and it just gets worse.

what about guys like marleau and zaitsev? could we have kept them too?

He has the attitude of an end of tenure Kessel, Phaneuf from the Salutegate fallout when terrible on ice performance is coupled with a hostile, defensive attitude towards the fanbase and media.

Don't disrespect Kessel like that. He always showed up. He was phenomenal and nearly a ppg for us his entire career and SHOWED up in the playoffs. Not just for us, on the back to back Pens runs. I loved Kessel while he was here, he played his ass off every game. He just wasn't a franchise guy and we were trying to force him into that role. Mitchy on the other hand thinks he is and wants to be paid like a franchise guy but doesn't wanna play like one.

Good golly dude. We are talking about a 40ish point gap between the two players. Give it a rest. I don't think you even understand what driving a line is.
