So Marner for Eichel is what you are saying? Who is gonna watch Eichels back and will he know if the other team scores?

It's a separate tweet;

Leafs are genuine when they say they aren't discussing any trades for their top forwards.

Not even going to listen - pathetic

I thought that maybe it was a smoke screen or just good negotiating on his part at season ender. I wouldn't say "I'm trading Marner this summer" either because you're committed to it at that point and you lose leverage.

Flat out not engaging in dialogue about Marner or 88 etc...to at least know what is out there astounds me.

Predictions for his next contract? He'll have a lot of points by then and will be looking to negotiate around the league to maximize the value.

As did I. But if it's true they're not even going to have any discussions, they should be fired. Clear house. Stop bringing people in, management and players, to fix the teams short-comings. Last year it was Paul MacLean, this year it will probably be Boudreau

I wouldn't worry about the Pres position so much but Gorton and Boudreau would be who I would hire today if I had my way. Unfortunately Gallant was already hired, I would have interviewed him too.

Trading Marner now after 2 disappointing playoffs where he registered 3 and 4 assists series in back to back years and Leaf losses without even scoring a goal in 18 straight, doesn't make him a player that would be highly sought after. Toss in one the worst contracts in the NHL, for a small non physical winger, adds negative value in trade, and any hope of getting fair market value is out the window.

Leafs management is putting on their best bravado that they plan on keeping him, but seriously what better options do they have?

Nobody wants a lowball offer, but I'd be concerned if they stated they are not going to entertain any kind of proposed trade and we are guaranteeing the same core again.

Whats Matthews’ next contract look like? Mitch will ask for just a little less than that. And will probably get it too if Dubas is still in charge.

How about " We are open for business to make this team great next year for the best fans in the NHL ".... You never know what kind of offers would come your way from 31 other teams in the league ...

When you keep failing to progress in the playoffs the statement is simple.

We are pursuing every avenue.
Doesn’t tip your hand and it just might be good for the players to wonder over the summer.

Only owed $24+/4years in real dollars. Gladly give him up for slightly less than market value for the cap room it frees up and go shopping the UFA market.

Matthews as a UFA will probably asks for around $14 million on a long term deal...he was willing to do a long term deal with the Leafs for $13 million plus as a RFA...ridiculous greed. We have a bunch of greedy ba5tards...easy money, easy promotion, just like their GM...I'm sure they are looking forward to becoming UFAs to get more money.

That shouldn’t surprise anyone. You don’t hand out those type of contracts without having total faith in the players.

90p wingers don't grow on trees, his trade value is still extremely high. (last 2 years paced 90p, as well)
You're right on the contract part, though. Flat cap will be tough to move him IMO

Dubas unemployed next off-season, you heard it here first lol.

wow

dubas along with shanny should have been fired. i guess they are going to keep up with their charade given that they probably sold the "idea" to the mlse board that handing out these ridiculous contracts with humungous signing bonuses were a good idea.

i think by next summer there will be wholesale changes and they will be absolutely welcomed.

unless leafs luck out such that for some reason tampa/boston/florida or the metro teams suck (injuries, cap casualties, etc...) and then make playoffs and win a round or two (highly unlikely btw);

it is good bye dubas-shanahan

Is this all we get with Marner? All talk and then a no show in the playoffs. I feel jealous of the Islanders having Barzal and Tampa having Brayden Point. Wish we just traded down at the 2015 draft and got Barzal plus. Anyways, my point is that these 2 players are outperforming Marner big time. The question remains if Marner will breakout next year and dominate the playoffs or is he just continue being the biggest bust. Clearly, I don’t think Leaf management can trade marner because nobody will give fair value for Marner. That is why Leaf management is saying that they aren’t trading Marner.
