Yeah I havent said that we've heard anything concrete about Marner. But Notsince67 said that WN had spoken to other teams during his hold out and all Im asking for is proof of that. Liars are the worst people.

Not surprisingly they'd make up info.

And even if true, a team reaching out to the player is one thing. Its completely different to go on a tour of different teams before July 1st even hits.

If CBJ offered up Jones for Marner, I would carry Mitch, Paul and Ferris to the airport.

Haha I’d love to watch you try and carry them. Maybe we can get a kickstarter to make $12m give it to cbj on the condition they give the leafs Jones. Imagine watching this guy try and carry 3 dudes to the airport!.

Cancel the season this would be entertainment

It said they made calls, which one would assume is to the Nylander camp, if not, who else are they calling?

It was also reported the Nylander had a KHL deal lined up, and was ready to sit.

It was also reported that the leafs WANTED to trade nylander

It was also reported the Leafs WANTED Nylander on a long term deal....

ECT, ETC, ETC....... This makes me laugh the most when now certain people who laughed at insiders during the willy lockout, are now all on board the insider train when it comes to Marner...

I'm not even arguing with you......... The media is trash and with every wrong prediction, they just move on, and pretend it never happened. Yet, somehow human nature is very forgiving. Forgetting history has always been one of our major faults.

I'm just sick of marner fanboys saying things that are, if not lies then untruths, to justify eventual behavoir of Marner.

Like: it's ok for MM to talk to other teams because it was reported that WN did it. All I was asking for was proof of these reports.

Careful you don’t hurt your shoulders with this reach

No reach whatsoever. The only reason he has his job today is because he put a gun to Shanny's head by soliciting offers from other teams. That forced Shanny to make a (bad) decision.

Why is it okay for him to hold the leafs up for more money but it's not okay for marner? I'm all for everyone making as much money as possible, but at least I'm consistent about it.

These fellas want to get paid, and yet they're the same guys who'll complain when fans hold them accountable when they disappear or don't perform, they really can't have it both ways imho

If they want the cash they have to take the team on their backs because it's these big contracts that WILL cost us depth

I'm sick of all the fanboys. The Leafs are not our favorite player.

That's fair. I'm not sure how many people truly feel that Mitch should talk to other teams though.... I think it would be a huge mistake. If he misses camp, that is point that I will start to sour on him. Anything before then seems to be speculation of guys without good track records.

It's almost as if there's not a salary cap for front office salary.

The comparison between the situations is asinine.

He;ll listen to offers from other teams and won't like what they offer then come crawling back asking for another offer from us and hopefully Dubas doesn't offer 11+
Hopefully he’s got a standing offer that doesn’t change or gets even lower when Mitch and his pops come crawling back

I would really love to see conclusive proof that the Marner camp is soliciting their services

if you're relying on that weak sauce tweet from Lebrun saying that they are willing to listen, then you need to go a pass an English remedial prose exam

until then let's just kill that silly narrative...yeah

I can hear it now, "geez Mitch sure love to sign ya but gosh we don't have cap space for it and really don't want to give up 4 1sts, get back to us when you have a solid offer and we'll mull it over!"

Dubas has said he'd "weigh the options if the offer was a 4 1st round picks compensation," otherwise he'll match

I’d take their 4 1sts and laugh maniacally. Their goaltending is gonna be a problem in the foreseeable future and their best players (Kakko especially) are not really ready for a playoff push.
I would too and Marner is my favorite Leaf player, but I’m a Leaf fan first and man, that guy could be a hero here. This whole thinks stinks.

Anyone else souring on the big 3?
When I see people like McDavid taking less money than was offered him, and people like Point say straight up that he won't talk to teams about offer sheets and he's still negotiating in good faith...

yeah, I'm bothered that the leafs big 3 care almost entirely about money without even the slightest consideration of team success.

Sign him and pay the man what he deserves. He is our best player!

Most points does not mean best player. I take Matthews, JT and Rielly over him. That's not even a slight on him, I think he is a really excellent player that can get better even. We have a lot of excellent hockey players.

Anyone else souring on the big 3?

Why would we be sour on Matthews? Dude is nothing but our best player and signed a deal nice and early. You can disagree with the deal, but he worked with options ranging from 3 years to 8 years and allowed Dubas to decide what worked best.

William Nylander, is the only one of the three to sign below his projected contract so far, so he’s given is good value. Also, at no time during his negotiation did he threaten to sign an offer sheet, just reportedly talked to Euro teams to work out a deal in case a deal with Toronto didn’t get down. To top it off, both sides have shown regret in the negotiation going on as long as it did. Given the hold out and his poor start after returning, I can understand frustration, but souring seems odd.

Mitch Marner is refusing to look at a long term deal, and appears set to only want a five year deal. He’s threatening to visit other cities to try and get an offer sheet, and, reportedly the plan all along was to wait until at least July 1st to try and leverage the Leafs in paying more. However despite all that, I don’t blame Mitch Marner. He’s been nothing but terrific on the ice for us, and all the previous is likely the agent and father advising him. That said, I have a feeling his agent and father are dangerously close to ending his childhood dream of playing for the Leafs

So, souring on the big 3? No.

Source?

I haven't heard Marner only wants to sign for 5 years...
I also thought it was stated somewhere that Marner isn't going to visit any cities, just take calls
Source on the plan was to wait until July 1st?

A gun to his head? That only makes sense if you think he's the best GM in the league and we don't dare lose him. And if he actually is.... we were smart to keep him.

He did NOT force Shanny to fire anyone or "to lose multiple top end executives", that's for sure.

Have a little faith in Shanny. He's got his big-boy pants on.....

It's almost as if there's not a salary cap for front office salary.

The comparison between the situations is asinine.

This, and it's just so obvious. We can pay Dubas whatever we feel like, and we can hire him a hundred assistants too.

Mitch has to fit within a cap. It was always going to be difficult, but WN and AM didn't give the team any sort of a break, so why should Marner? Other than fielding a team that could win, they have no reason to take less.

IMO the big 3 are making it really hard for us to put together a winning team now, and yeah, I kinda hold that against them. All of them.....
