It's gotta be hard watching for the haters when the announcers start talking about Marner for the Hart.
What I’ve found interesting, anyone that uses the word “carry the team”, “put the team on his back” here is a laughable fanboy, but I can’t count how many media guys have said it in the last couple weeks, from Bowen to Johnson, opposing team broadcast, almost universally used. It’s good for context.

Not sure about the Hart, but I think he’s in the Selke convo again this year. For me, he’s been amazing on the other side of the puck, more tenacious than I’ve seen, not just knocking down pucks, but hunting and winning his fair share on the wall too.

Saying things like that about individual players is always stupid no matter who says it and no matter who the player is. Yes that includes Gretzky, McDavid, Crosby and whoever else. It's a team game, end of story. Media guys say all kinds of things, that doesn't mean many of the things they say aren't stupid. You say it's "good for context", I have no idea what that means.

Marner played great in November, news at 11. Would be nice to see him playing great in May one of these years, the chances of that happening would be greatly improved if he started by playing great in April. Maybe next year will be the year, you never know.

There is a decent amount that have agendas no doubt. I have my suspicions but fyi you will get infracted for even hinting at it.
Ikr? Imagine supporting a player that will have his jersery retired one day and hold multiple records. Madness! Must be his relative or his agent to even enjoy the player, I’m suspicious as well! I guess you have a John Mitchell jersey, I prefer all star Leafs talents.

Highest point percentage. Congrats Mitch, another great November. Hang a banner. The Hart is not determined by highest point percentage. McDavid is not even in the top 5 for the Hart. Neither is Marner. Sorry. Stick to trying to win the Selke.

No one here knows Marner personally and this rhetoric is getting old. No one has an agenda, it’s a public forum. No one has to conform to your way of thinking or even mine. If you get interacted for it, good, you deserve it for suggesting nonsense. It would be equally dumb if I suggested you had an anti Marner agenda. You just have a different view point, big woop.

Everyone should be able to post about any player without being accused of something childish.

Right and that is why some fans are called haters and insulted when they post something some do not like being said about Marner. No agenda. Right.

It’s on both sides, literally said that in my post. Personally I’ve only called one person a hater in this thread. I haven’t really seen much hate besides that. I don’t get what agenda that would push. It’s an anonymous forum with like 0.01% of leafs fans worldwide lmfao. What agenda could anyone on here possibly push that would have any affect on anything significant?

How could you possibly know this? I think it's safe to say that Marner has a number of friends, many of whom are Leaf fans so what makes you think (never mind know for sure) that none of them are here?

I must have seen the term hater posted thousands of times here over the last few years.

Rhetorical question - does an agenda have to affect something significant to be considered an agenda?

Marner played great in November, news at 11.

Come on now. The context is important here because of the situation. New coach new system things are rocky already and then your 69 goal captain misses 9 games. Marner played exceptionally well. Not only did he contribute like old news but they were tough and clutch offensive plays that he was slagged about not having any of in his bag. He played with tenacity and a turned up determination to win puck battles. He is showing signs of developing his game that can translate in the playoffs it's not that flashy dipsy doodle And 1 Mix tape Marner we have seen at times and we have been critical of. He is playing like he wants to stay and be a Berube type player. I'll take that even if it's "only November".

He has to sustain it but I see progress. Don't you?

I agree with you but after paying this guy almost $66m for the last 6 seasons and 8 playoffs, this statement is pretty sad. He now wants $13-$14m and I say no way until he proves he can do it in the playoffs. Some call that being a hater but I call it smart business.

I had similar thoughts two years ago. Going into the playoffs I was heaping praise on him and was optimistic that Marner's playoff struggles were behind him. The he piled up points against TB for the first few games and since then, nothing.

No matter how "tough, clutch and tenacious" he looks, doing it against Utah in November isn't the same as doing it against Florida in the playoffs. I'm sorry but it just isn't. Marner needs to get it done against good teams in the playoffs before I believe that he can get it done against good teams in the playoffs, period. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I need to see it before I believe it and I can't say I'm overly optimistic at this point.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice ...

Where and when did Mitch Marner say he wants $13 - $14 million?

What is the obsession with Marner and Matthews playing on the same line

Someone posted already that they do not perform better statistically when together

Matthews and Domi seemed to work very well last year. Marner and Tavares seems to be a great fit.
