Oh I’d expect Mitch to slowdown a bit. As hot as he appears to be, currently a 31 goal 110 point pace. It’s only a little better than the 30 goal 100 point player I categorize him as.
I realy dont care if they sign him or not. But if they gonna sign, do it at the right time. I want them to do what is best for the team, and i might be old but i am no Nostradamus.

Then why pay him if he aint a gamebreaker?

The problem has been the other top players, are near there regular season form, he is not.

But right now he looks better then ever, So a change might come. But dont sign until absolutly needed. Or if he goes into a slump. Thats when you sign.

No they haven’t been. There’s been one guy who has been near regular season and that’s William Nylander. The rest all drop off as well.

I haven’t been in favour of signing Marner before the playoffs. I think they should wait.

So leave his side or the ice open to help people that should have that situation under control?

the whole play developed right in front of marners face your suggesting there was nothing he could do he was infront of him in the neutral zone and he couldn’t do nothing ? Reillys man once he gets into the zone you don’t even communicate with your dman so he gets picced up but Nylander can take four five strides right ? Gotchya

Marner back checked harder than Nylander on that play and actually almost got back in time.

I’ve attached the play so you can watch again. I’m not sure how you are claiming the whole thing developed right in front of Marner’s eyes. All the forwards got caught puck watching the dump in. Pastrnak notices that and sneaks in with speed behind Marner. Marner and Nylander don’t even see Pastrnak sneak behind them. The two guys that do are Rielly and Samsonov. On that dump in play Rielly is way too high to the blue line. Pastrnak’s speed is too fast and Rielly is flat footed out of position he cannot cut him off.

You keep saying Nylander shouldnt have left his side but Nylander was literally in the middle of the ice the entire time. Marner ends up lower than Nylander by the end of the play. But in the video you can see Marner has no clue Pastrnak has blown by him till Pastrnak is by the hashmarks. That’s on Marner for sure. But what the hell is Rielly doing in no man’s land and that float in by Nylander is brutal too. Complete system failure.

Please point the time stamp in which you think Marner should have impeded Pastrnak?

I'm with Kyper on this one, it doesn't work that way.

There is no chance - zero - that Treliving has or will communicate to Marner that he's waiting to see how the playoffs go before they decide what to do with him. Because if he took that attitude, Marner would rightly say he's walking on July 1st, period.

His argument would be that Treliving didn't hold off on Nylander's deal until last year's playoffs, and it was pretty clear Auston was getting extended with no such conditions. So Mitch would simply ask "why play hardball with me?" And he has a point.

As a fan, I absolutely would want to see how things go in the playoffs before extending him - if they fail again, something drastic must be done. But I wish they took that approach years ago, or told Mitch when they re-signed Willie that he's their guy and moved Marner when they had their chance.

The Leafs didn't so here we are. And my belief is that MLSE's 100% intention is to re-sign him after the season is over, regardless of how the playoffs go, unless Mitch rejects every offer they throw at him and walks.
Can't they just say we are waiting to see what the guaranteed amount the Cap is moving to, is?

Kyper had Gord Stellick on last night and he was saying the leafs and Marner have a number. His understanding is the leafs and Marner have agreed to wait and see for now. He said it is widely known the leafs want to keep Marner and Marner wants to be a leaf, but both parties are interested in keeping things open incase things go wrong. Then he said the only way he thinks a deal might get done is if the contract becomes a distraction for Marner, then he can see Marner’s side pushing for it to get done, but it’s on the leafs to stay true to their principles and wait.

I think this is the play, there’s no rush.

Sounds like team Marier are already building in an excuse in case he plays poorly. Although I think that won’t happen,
