I get your thought, and I was in favour of letting Marner walk and using his dollars to make us better. But cap is going up, and dang, he is playing so good. Makes it so difficult to decide.

Yeah that's the point. We are beyond talent and money for contracts at this point. It's really down to WINNING.

With the cap increasing in the next few years I think it's important we resign Mitch. If Tavares can take a 4 to 5 mill contract on the short term we should have enough space to address the 2c slot next season.

You do not sign marner until after playoffs. Its not like he will give you a discount now before playoffs anyways. Plus we have all seen this before with him.

Nylander made a few excellent plays defensively last night, played with a little more aggression.
Loving the evolution of his game, hopefully he can keep it up.

I can't imagine they will split Tavares and Marner up, they'll need to continue to carry the team.
Matthews will be saddled with Domi for a bit I would think.

1 goal 11 assists in 11 games in October playing with Matthews.

However WITHOUT Matthews Marner has really stepped up his game with 6 goals in his last 8 games with AM out.

A tale of 2 Marners who playing alongside JT has filled a void, and as you say it appears playing Marner with AM reduces his effectiveness where he chooses to pass instead of shot and score goals himself.

I think this team is another center and solid defenseman away from being a real cup contender. We need a center with speed and scoring ability. Do people like Scott Laughton? Or maybe Boone Jenner?

I’m very nervous for Matthews to come back. I don’t want the team and players to revert back to old habits. I honestly feel like if this hasn’t shown everyone that the team kind of follows Matthews demeanour then I’m not sure you’re paying attention.

For long we’ve believed that Marner is the one who is the driver of the team playing the way everyone hates. But it’s getting harder to ignore 34 might be the problem in terms of the team having trouble adjusting to a specific style of play… I know we don’t want to talk about it, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Why are we a more effective team when he’s out? Its kinda crazy.

Other than everyone seemingly playing better Marner plays different that’s maybe one of the reasons people single him out cause when he’s not playing with the captain he plays more like he’s been wanting to a couple years bacc shoots more harder to read he plays a little more kanish which makes us more dangerous rather than just being a passenger looking to win Matty the Richard

Marner without Matthews has been an elite player. Maybe he relies on Matthews too much, or defers to him, given his shooting prowess. I hope they aren't put together again 5v5 ... they absolutely can carry their own line, as we are seeing now.

There is always that asterisk, yes.. but playoffs... but we are headed in a positive direction... let's hope Berube can keep them learning, and headed in that direction... there is no room for error, or letting up.

You realize the cap goes up for every team, right? If you think Marner can't get more than what the Leafs offer him in the open market, you're flat out delusional.
