The compromise seems to be to call him a 100 point pace player rather than a 100 point player. It's splitting hairs, but technically accurate And most will be unhappy with it lol which is better than one side getting what they want over the other

Imo Tre can only extend one of Marner or JT before the playoffs. If the team is 7 and out again in the first round, someone from the core is going to go form an optics POV. It's likely JT given his age
I for one have always considered him a 100 point pace player.

Because we are keeping track

2 more assists for Marner today.

One on a 2 vs 1 while on the pp, the other on an empty net.

The 2v1 pp was after his muffin shot was blocked and after the block the Knights went the other way on their own 2vs1 but failed. Tavares slings the puck from the defensive zone down the ice to Marner, who immediately under no pressure passes to Nylander...who walks in and scores.

Again...not the play driver on either.

Marner is a Leaf so I have to support him... he still has lots to prove. The 2 on 1 play is just how you want it... early pass which gives the D and Hill a new set of options to deal with . Shot or pass back. Great play..

If you recall he got in on a 2 on 1 in the Oilers game and I actually thought he held it too long.. early pass was there and Bouchard actually played it well. Mitch did take advantage of Skinner being off his angle to score the winner.

So he changed it up, mixing his game which means he's engaged and was a crucial part of the win tonight.. whatever it is we all (some of us?) think of him it is hard to criticize what he's done here.

If you think he's going to sign for only a marginal raise, I've got some swampland to sell you.
With the cap going up a lot he will get more then Mathews if they just give him the same percentage of the cap he got when he signed last contract. Anything less is a discount. Cap will be over 100m in the 26-27 season likely 105 million

12 something should be the max but you’d think he’s gotta get signed we can get a couple cups out of this team with the right tweaks

In 2019 when talking about Marner, Dreger said he'd heard teams would put out a 14 million offers sheet. Dreger is an idiot. You can tell Ferris had him in his back pocket.
Some team in 2019 was willing to make him the highest paid player in the league, absent at that time not even a single playoff round win? On top of that, they would have to forfeit draft picks?

I don't know if the story is true or not, I presume it is fake or manufactured by those vested in his interests. If it was true, I imagine that the GM who was considering this is no longer employed in the industry.

When the ice disappears, so will the core. Book it. Marner isn't alone in this assessment.

There won;t be a Cup with this core. Pay him what you want, $15M or $5M, there won't be a Cup coming, Sorry to break it to you guys but I'm not exactly providing breaking news after nine years.

Now two of them are in their contract, UFA years, this is the best we will see of them, it's human nature. The worst may be once playoff begins. This is the barometer.

If the team wins a Cup, especially if one of them wins the Conn Smythe, I bring them into the office and ask him "how much would you like me to have the pleasure of paying you"?

Otherwise, the Leaf fans thanks to the ownership of the team they are mercilessly cursed to represent and define the term "insanity"

If there is one wildcard this year is that perhaps the team is learning to be comfortable winning games 2-0, playing in the trenches and a North/South game. I've probably been fooled before by this so I shrug my shoulders. Marner definitely has altered his game somewhat, which is a positive

We will see, he’s lucky I like him. Not everybody gets a raise. He was at 90 points a season with the expectation of improvement on his last deal and it was an overpayment. Today he is worth that money, he is what he is he.

As for swampland, I'm sure you paid Manhatten price for it, still trying to unload it.

People keep repeating it and it gets quotes. An overpay for Marner is in the algorithm. Listen to Kyper shill and people here that couldn't possibly believe that Marner is worth more than say Mckinnon. It's actually amazing the narrative driving like this is successful enough to make some people believe and GMs like Dubas sign.

Shocking it is not, when media conglomerates that own an NHL team hire NHL union representatives to go on National television and spew nonsense like Kyper paving the way for overpays. ODog is the opposite, he calls out the BS, he is the best by far.

I mean I wish I was a majority shareholder and could just waltz in there and blast the living shit out of these incompetent corporate idiots. There is no mystery why we pay some of the highest for Telcom in the world and the two biggest perps need govt grants for everything.
