Why will Matthews get more pesos then Marner
We don't know what Marner will get, but it's going to come down to his relative quality and overall impact, not his playstyle.
That’s because he’s not a 12M dollar player.
He is though. There's really no argument otherwise. There is no goal total or playstyle criteria to be paid like that. Playmaking is valuable, whether you want to admit it or not, and plenty of playmakers have made the equivalent and more without hitting 40 goals.
I would prefer a player who can generate himself.
He does generate himself. There's more to generating goals than who last touched the puck.

That’s because he’s not a 12M dollar player. He can’t score at a high enough rate. He needs other players to score for him. I would prefer a player who can generate himself.. as would most.

You know Marner since hes in the NHal producing goal at the same rate g/game than Stone, Larkin, Meier, miller, hyman, pavelski,

higher rate than Svechnikov, strutzle, keller, konecny, oreilly, kopitar, hischier, gaudreau

Great - can we get him at the cap hit as one of those players too?

Ya he is way down the list. Nylander is bagging his lunch or something like that.

Nate MacKinnon an elite #1C makes $12.6 mil AAV which is similar to what Mitch Marner is seeking.

In the past 8 seasons Nate is #1 in playoff goals scored with 46 goals and points at 1.28 P/GP.

Mitch Marner career playoff GOAL results in direct comparison and others that score at similar rates..

Which player MacKinnon or Marner would you rather be paying $12.6 mil AAV based on being a TRUE playoff performer?

Only a select few Leaf Fans believe the Leafs are getting similar Return on Investment that they would pay Marner what MacKinnon makes.

One SOG 5v5 since Matty went on IR.

5 and 1 record, since Matty went on IR and leads the team in scoring.

Just gonna leave this here so you understand no cares if he has one SOG on 5v5. It’s not affecting the overall outcomes of the games. It’s just something being thrown out there to distract and diminish what he has been doing well. Grasping at straws.

No one here knows what Marner is asking. His agent hasn’t leaked anything and the team hasn’t leaked anything. This is just more speculative nonsense.

We're not choosing between Mckinnon and Marner. We're choosing between Marner and cap room.

During the Esmonton Broadcast Ron Maclean indicated revenue has bee. Better than expected and the cap is set to jump alot in a couple years. Apparently the players association was goinf to discuss potentially splitting the increase and having next years increase even more rhan expected.

This news could certainly move Marners wants to 12 million or more.

Even if he was, I’d still want a discount, similar to what the sunshine tax free states do. You want to play for your hometown, give us a bit of a break.

@ToneDog dont listen to this poster. The only people who dont care are the Marner Only Fans.

1 5v5 shot in 6 games is abysmal.

Marner was terrible until he was put on Tavares wing.. Tavares looks excellent this year and has been good with everyone he's played with.
Doing damage on the PP which now has a pulse, 3 on 3 and 6 on 4/5. There was a time when JT was being ripped for his 5 vs 5 production. Good Times.

Yup I heard that report about a rather large jump in the Cap ceiling potential based on NHLPA deciding to make a larger jump than the $4-5 currently projected.

I instantly thought Marner will be re-signed now for sure, regardless if that contract brings poor return on investment, with limited contribution and disappointing playoff results.

Not Marner’s biggest fan, but…

I hope that OT goal flipped the switch for Mitch and his brain. He made a great defensive play, immediately transitioned to attacking on a 2 on 1. Finally made the smartest and safest play by shooting the puck. That is what we need.

Be smart, safe and let your talent shine when you get opportunities.

Agreed. I though the same, however, I also had the thought that Marner and agents demands just went up.

Yep. Marner Fans jumping up and down about his points but fail to give Tavares and Mcmann cresit for their incredible play on the 5v5 goal.

Tavares was amazing, watch how quickly he gets up off the ice and powers to the net to create the goal, with his great hand in tight.

Meanwhile Kelly Hrudey highlighted Marner lazy effort in the Boston series - how Marner took a light slash and fell to the ice and took forever to get up lol. That was playoff Marner, this is season Tavares!

I heard a very possible105m by 25/26

On Saturday night’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman said that salary cap could have a larger than estimated jump. The Sportsnet insider said that cap could leap as high as $95 million to $97 million for next season. The raise to $95 million to $97 million would mean a jump of eight to 10.2-percent over the current number. Friedman mentioned the limit on raising the cap number were “guardrails” put in place from the last CBA during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the NHL seems to be doing good business at the moment.

if true and we'll use 96m which with another jump of 10% would put the cap at 105.6m

Oh I am so looking forward to the Mathews Domi line, we will be getting another 100 point guy. Out of nothing at all.
Kyper keeps suggesting they give Marner a shot at C. Domi clearly is better winger than a C but with Matty out, they play him at C and not Marner or Nylander.

Probably because he does so well as a winger. The old don’t mess with something that works, however having said that I too would like to see Mitch play center for awhile.

I remember hearing how Domi can easily replace what Marner brings.
Offensively playing with Matthews it would be close.

Defensively it would be nowhere near as close.

Domi/Matthews
Marner/JT
Willy/ someone seems to make sense.

They could throw Matthews and Marner together late in 1 goal games to either try to score or defend a 1 goal game

Lol... Marner is only producing on PPs and 3v3s.

Despite Domi playing with lesser linemates, he STILL has more 5v5 primary assists than Marner!

5v5 When Domi gets to play with an elite skilled player he produces:
Mcmann Domi Nylander
51 mins 5gf 2Ga

5v5 When Domi plays with unskilled players, he doesnt produce:
Knies Domi Marner
37 mins 0 GF 1GA
