Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Again

As a Leaffan and Swede, that goal was sweet and sour. But Sweden was overall better then i thought.
Got hidden capital in Nylander and EP , and why no EK in the overtime?? WTF!

They took us to OT and could have just as easily won as they lost

They sure did. We are actually lucky that Nylander played so horribly. That loss could be pinned on him.

The problem with Mitch was that he played like he was in quicksand. He was legitimately awful the whole night. It goes 3v3 he has more time and space and he got a goal on a muffin shot that the tender should have had. I am glad we won. Not so glad that because he scored a weak goal, we need to hear about how 13m is a no brainer, and he is now a clutch performer. This is a David Clarkson justification scenario.

do you ever get tired of being wrong

He is always wrong
A couple of years ago he made a bet and if he lost he said he wouldn’t post here anymore
Needless to say he lost and actually disappeared for a while as the wave but I’m sure with his integrity he had another account.
So now he is back
He has hated marner from day one. I think Mitch must have wedged him in elementary school and took his lunch money

Mitch could score three goals and win a cup and this guy would criticize him for not scoring 4

No common sense

He was OK. Not spectacular. Clutch with the game on his stick. Sure, it could have been different; anything could have been different, but it wasn't.

It was a clutch goal on a shot that the tender should have had. He did it though and now we have to listen to how it erases 8 years of poor playoff performances and dispels his relative uselessness in clutch situations. Because it was for Team Canada his rabid superfans are going to relentlessly drone on.

Nice one Mitch. You got a shot on net that went in. You are the hero of the day

Coulda, woulda, shoulda, but didn't. We don't have to listen that at all. No one brought in up until you did. Mostly because it is hyperbole.

Jon Cooper vs some toxic nobody. Tough call. He does so many great things that hockey people understand is unique. “Mitch can do it all” is right.

People just reveal how sad they are as people, nothing more.

Marner started that whole play by cutting off a Swedish player at the net and getting Canada possession of the puck, too.

A real Leafs fans should be happy Marner scored a big goal, on a big stage, in a big moment. If you're feeling anything else, go talk to someone, you got issues.

Hopefully, this gives him more confidence to be a difference maker come playoffs, can't hurt!

3-on-3 isn’t enjoyable...its shinny not hockey and there isnt 3v3 in the playoffs. Its a season gimmic. What’s everyone so impressed with? That Marner had the awareness to skate full speed into wide-open ice, in a straight line, and take a shot? That makes up for his dreadful 5v5 performance in regulation?

Just check the main boards GDT, by the end of regulation, most had turned on Marner and noticed what many of us have been saying on this board for years. Shocked how invisible, ineffective and how he cant get even generate a shot on net. There wasn’t a player more disliked in that game thread. Read the comments. I know many of his upporters here have, because they were in that thread defending him.

Watching the game today just strengthened my opinion of him. He looked even worse than I was expecting in comparison to Mackinnon, Mcdavid and Crosby.
Let's see if the OT games helps Mitch on Saturday vs a strong USA team. The planets lined up for him last last night in 3 on 3 OT. Goes straight at EK65 who plays it like Rielly and leaves Marner a nice gap to snipe a beautiful goal while screening his goalie.

I still think he is not the right fit for McDavid. They should have brought Hyman to play with McDavid and had Marner drive the third line. Was not impressed with Coop last night. Only change he makes is to put Cirelli with Point and Hagel.

Why should Leafs fans care about Marner scoring a goal for any team other than the Leafs.

Leafs fans are fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Not necessarily a fan of team Canada at the wannabe Olympics. Furthermore being a fan of the team doesn't have to mean being a fan of the player.

It's entirely possible to distinguish the two.

There are lots of people who are fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs who aren't fans of Mitch Marner. It isn't a requirement to like the players to like the team. Some fans prefer to cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey instead of the name on the back.

It's sad Leafs fans are expected to celebrate this goal instead of any that Marner has scored for the Leafs in a big game.

Too many fans have way too much emotional attachment to this group of chronically under-performing players. If it makes them feel any better... congratulations Mitch Marner. You scored a goal that won a meaningless game in a meaningless tournament.

Now let's see you do it in the playoffs when it really matters.

Since i was rooting for Sweden i was not happy Marner scored a big goal. But would have been much worse if it was Mrs chant Rat (or how he spells it). Happy if it help Leafs long time. I hope no Leaf player dare to get hurt in this musical on ice.

Agreed, no injuries are my biggest want here.
